I feel bad for Angelina Jolie

I mean, she's capable of good performances, but throughout her career, she has starred in certain films that are either mediocre or just downright sucked in general.

reply

There is no accounting for taste.

reply

So, feeling bad for certain actors isn't enough?

reply

You may feel bad as much as you want. It's a personal thing and completely irrelevant for the actors.

reply

I see. I'm just trying to point out that modern Hollywood can leave everyone cold and not in a good way

reply

Pessimism is a bad attitude but it is your right.

reply

Hate to break this to you, but fuck that noise. I'd rather be a nice person than be pessimistic.

reply

She was a hot chick with a famous father. She got a lot more career and lifestyle than she deserved.

reply

Fair point

reply

Deserved? There is no deserve. There is only have and have-not.

reply

I think the problem is she was so exotic. And surely lost many roles to more relatable actresses like Sandy B and what not.

reply

Don't feel bad for her because her filmography is unimpressive, remember SHE was the one who chose every single one of those roles.

No, if you're going to feel bad for her, feel bad because when her marriage ended, absolutely everyone in Hollywood sided with her ex, and her career took a fast dive from the A-list to the B-list.

reply

Ok, that's a good point, but I'm not talking about her life style, to be honest.

reply

Your point about her filmography is valid, but if she never made anything but the sort of dreary Oscar-baity dramas I always skip, it was because she wanted to make dreary Oscar-baity dramas. She chose to make the kind of films that interested her, and I chose to avoid seeing the kind of films that definitely don't interest me!

She might become a more interesting actor in the future, now that she can't get the dreary Oscar-bait financed as easily as she could, which will mean a wider variety of roles. Like she was actually the only good thing about "Maleficent", where she brought a touch of Joan Crawford-like Camp to a piece of throwaway crap, may be she'll do other things that are actually fun to watch.

reply

And at the very least her voice work as Master Tigress wasn't that bad.

reply

She has talent as an actor, I just don't like her taste in projects.

Or her fondness for being famous-for-being-famous.

reply

I understand where you're coming from

reply

I liked her in both Hackers, and Girl Interrupted.

reply

I sided with Brad Pitt because Jolie has proven time and time again she's crazy.

reply

Yeah, I feel bad for her , too. But it's got nothing to do with her movie career. Didn't she have cancer? And if I remember correctly, she had a double mastectomy. It must have been awful. If I am wrong about this, I apologize - I haven't looked it up - I'm speaking totally from memory. Recent news on her has been all about the ridiculous spat with Brad Pitt. Just shows celebrities aren't above acting like 5 year olds when going thru a divorce. It's a bad legacy for her. When she first came out in the late 90s - she had superstar written all over her. It didn't quite go that way.

reply

Actually she tested positive for a gene that could cause breast cancer. Her mother died of it. She got so paranoid that she had both of her breasts removed so that she would never develop breast cancer.

reply

Wow, so she never actually had cancer? A double mastectomy seems to be jumping the gun a bit. To each his own, but if it was up to me, I'm not losing any of my body parts until it has been confirmed and reconfirmed they are at risk. I still feel sympathy for Jolie, but must say, maybe she overreacted.

reply

I'm with you. It's definitely not something I would do. She also had a complete hysterectomy very young. Apparently, not only did her mother die of breast cancer, but her grandmother and aunt as well. Her doctors "estimated" her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer were high. I still wouldn't do what she did. I would monitor very closely. Obviously she was terrified and took prevention to the extreme.
