Which is his favourite own movie?

ASK HIM

reply

How?

reply

I asked him and he said Basic Instinct is his favorite.

reply

Well he did get to fuck prime Sharon Stone...

reply

It should be The Game.

That's the problem with Michael Douglas's career, most of his films are gimmick movies. I can't think of many Michael Douglas roles that are memorable or really great. The ones he made with Kathleen Turner which were good comedies ... at least that is way I remember them. I liked The American President as well, but his best work to date I think is in the Kominsky Method. There is something delightful about seeing a guy that has lived such charmed life have to deal with the indignities life sends our way, and do it graceful and with humor. Love that show.

Memorable and really great:

The China Syndrome
Romancing the Stone
Fatal Attraction
Wall Street
Basic Instinct
Falling Down (great performance)
The Game (his best)

I would also add these films:

Coma
The War of the Roses
Wonder Boys

I agree that the Kominsky Method is wonderful.

Everything you list there at the time was cutting edge, but reeks of amateur gimmicky TV production values that are glaring today. This was what passed for pedestrian entertainment. I wish I had not wasted the time watching about 80% of what was shoved in front of our eyes and was supposed to be cool. It mostly wasn't.

reply

They are all still very good movies. Are you telling me that The China Syndrome is an amateur gimmicky movie?

reply

Yep. Now that I know so much more about nuclear power than I did, than the whole world did back whenever that movie was made ... ah, but you are trolling aren't you? I thought Silkwood was better to be honest.

reply

By the way, this discussion inspired me to watch Fatal Attraction again, which I did yesterday. In a new beautiful 4K print. Thank you for the inspiration.

And... it's an outstanding film. Adrian Lyne has created one of the best films of the 80's that has stood the test of time. And it just reinforces my point: Michael made some great movies back in the day.

reply

Fatal Attraction is horrible. There is nothing but playing off the idea of a fanatical girlfriend ... something a lot of us have had a lot of experience with ... what do we need a movie to explore the horror of that for?

Seriously, that is not a serious movie. It may be funny and entertaining, but not exactly something I would even watch the trailer of again.

reply

Jeez you're a real bore aren't you.

reply

Airing your mental problems, you think that's fascinating?

reply

I'd rather be crazy than boring. There's no cure for being a bore. And you're the biggest bore on the planet.

Zzzzzzzzz

reply

Basic Instinct is his favorite.

It's got to be Wonder Boys, surely.

I read somewhere (don’t remember the source) that he said Wonder Boys is one of his favorite.
