TJ Mackey...Magnolia.

reply

Absolutely. Seconded. He knocks it out of the park in Magnolia.

I think Cruise gives a good performance in whatever he's in, but I believe the best MOVIE he's done is 'Oblivion'.

reply

Yes, he does. He's an underrated performer.

Oblivion's an underrated movie, too, but I prefer a bunch of other Cruise flicks. In the same shiny sci-fi vein, I think I'd go for Minority Report first.

Overall best film he's been in...tricky. He's done a lot of great stuff across genres.

Magnolia is art house gold, Interview with the Vampire is great, A Few Good Men is a punchy drama, and The Last Samurai is kinda epic.

But I might have to go with Collateral. Cruise and Foxx carry the movie as co-leads, and they are impeccable. Cruise's performance here is underrated, too, and a lot of reviewers said he was only okay while praising Foxx to the heavens. I'd say Cruise is equal to his co-star, if not better. The script is TIGHT - one of the leanest stories I've seen (up there with Whiplash) - and it never fails to raise stakes, heighten the drama...it's a great film.

Vincent is great; probably the best character Tom Cruise has played. It's because of him that I like Collateral just as much as Heat. However, I'd have to say his best performance is Ron Kovic in Born On The Fourth Of July, especially during the argument he has with Willem Dafoe's character in the desert. Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder is also pretty memorable.

reply

I think Jerry Maguire is quite easily his best performance.
