I Come Home From Work

And as I'm driving up the hill and approach my condo community, I find a small child wandering around in a diaper with no shirt or shoes on and it's 45 Degrees here in St.Louis.. I got out of my vehicle and I could tell he maybe had a disorder of some kind, so I followed him and called 911 for assistance.. I asked him if he could tell me where he lived, but he kept walking away.. Finally, I see him round the corner and disappear from my sight.. I'm walking around talking to 911 and see a sliding glass door open with the curtain covering it and I knock on their door.. A woman comes to the door looking totally strung out with the kid following behind her.. I explained I found her child wandering around the street barely dressed with no shoes or shirt on with it being as chilly as it is out.. She thanked me and told me her son is Autistic and he likes to wander off, which is not cool.. Finally, I told 911 the child has been reunited and at least there was a happy ending.. Nowadays, kids are being abducted left & right and that's the last thing I needed to see after working all night and come home to this.. I'm not a parent and can only imagine how a parent must feel when their child disappears.. 🤔

reply

Parent should keep a better watch on their kid

reply

Those are grounds for child apprehension by child protection services where I live.

That child should be taken away, no matter what their condition - that mom sounds unfit.

reply

Fuck, I couldn't believe it and I was ready to take my hoodie off and cover him if he would've stopped long enough for me to do so.. It's chilly out this early barely clothed.. Unreal 🙄

reply

Life have taught me in situations like this to mind my own business and leave people be

reply

In a situation like this, your inaction could lead to the death of a child.

reply

OK I would call someone despite the lessons life have gave me

reply

Unless it's samoanjoes. Let him run wild.

He's probably just running back to the big hairy loving arms of Kowalski.

reply

samoanjoes in diapers out in the cold 😂🤣😂🤣

🤣

God, I felt anxious just reading that. It sounds like you handled the situation as well as anyone could have, and good on you for being proactive and looking out for people.

What’s troubling is the mom's nonchalant, casual response to her child wandering around in his diapers out in the cold, like it’s something that happens all the time, or she’s so strung out she doesn’t get what’s going on. That’s not going to end well if she doesn’t get it together.

reply

I'm relieved that the child made it home safely. You did the right thing looking out for him.

The child needs a tracker. Autistic children frequently wander away and are attracted to water.

reply

Let that be a lesson to one and all:
Never come home from work.
