Artists Who Never Fell In Love

Or a case of unrequitted love. Someone besides Van Gogh. During that time, I'm guessing celebrities weren't sought out as much, and definitely not someone you could simply look up.

I think with enough popularity, it's probably unavoidable. The temptation might be too strong for even the most awkward of people, especially when it's easy to find a handful of information about someone. Maybe an awkward woman would seek out this artist, or a liaison connecting them together. During early Hollywood, gay celebrities would have a "beard" (Merv Griffin) to avoid scandal. I remember listening to an interview where someone assumed a person got married for the sake of public events and not having to constantly decide on who to take.

A few years ago I saw the film “The Moon and Sixpence” starring George Sanders and based on the book by William Somerset Maugham. In that film the character starts out as married but doesn’t really seem to have any love for his wife. The character is supposedly based on the painter Paul Gauguin but I don’t know how closely the story mirrors his life.

Interesting.. Sanders and Maugham were both homosexuals, too.

I always thought it was a damned shame that Liberace never found the right woman.

Michelangelo (no way to know for sure)

David Lee Roth.. I've heard him say this even in 2015 ("I've been infatuated, but you'll know when I'm in love), but it's a repeat of what he said in 1984, and it's probably one of a few times he's honest about himself (when it's not bragging)
