Your most sad, touching, moving, emotional, crying scenes in a movie...

What scenes in any movie have MOVED you the most?
Let's skip all horror style stuff that is just shock value, stick to emotionally, heartfelt stuff. Things that made you cry or aw, or just FEEL all the feels.

The Abyss: when they bring her back to life

Ghost: when we can see him at the end

Always: Pete's speech near the end

L.A. Story: that final Enya song scene

Bruce Almighty: when Jennifer is pray crying

Vanilla Sky: when they discuss his suicide

Gattaca: the ending rocket launch burn up

that kind of stuff

Wall*E when his memory is wiped but he comes back. I teared up just now typing that, thinking about it. :D

Inside Out (2015) - Bing Bong's self-sacrifice: "Take her to the moon for me!"

reply

Oh yeah! Me too! I have that in my list but could not recall the exact FEELIES moment. That is a good one.

Any number of movies where the dog dies. I am Legend, Old Yeller, Turner and Hooch are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Steel Magnolias: funeral scene
My Girl: funeral scene
Terms of Endearment: when she's telling her son that she knows he loves her.
Jurassic Park: when they first see the Dinosaurs from the jeep, when Ellie turns his head. It's the soundtrack here that does it.
Always: when he's helping her fly the plane
Odd Thomas: Even though I know its coming, I still cry.
Grave of the Fireflies: more than one scene
Dead Poets Society: Oh Captain my captain
Come and See: more than one scene

reply

ooh! Dead poet gets me every time!!!

reply

I came here to say the same thing.

I can’t watch films where the dog dies. I use that website to screen them.

reply

Yeah, I've not watched a few movies because of that like Marley & Me or Hachi: A Dog's Tale. Stone Fox (along with the book) is another one I've seen I forgot to mention.

Which reminded me of The Neverending Story and Artex. I still bawl my eyes out.

1st tears shed were for that Damn dog yeller

Up - opening scene about the couple’s marriage.
Toy Story - Andy grows up and gives away his toys
The Killing Fields - the end when John Lennon’s Imagine starts to play
About Time - the Dad and son travel back to a memory one last time

Star Trek II. Whek Kirk gets the message that he should come to the engine room and notices that Spock's seat is empty, and you see that he realizes that Spock sacrificed himself to repair the ship, it doesn't get more heartbreaking. Some genuinely good acting by Shatner in that scene. The best I've ever seen from him.

reply

I JUST watched that 2 days ago! Yes epic

Rocky (1976) -- The whole last 5 minutes, but really the movie as a whole. No other movie has more heart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G40ji3nWHi0

Rocky II (1979) -- "...except for my kid being born...." https://youtu.be/ai-bBhw_XZo?t=38

The Manchurian Candidate (1962) -- the assassination scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwfFWXUEyfQ

Babe (1995) -- "That'll do, pig" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zHmeTeLgMY

Shakespeare in Love (1998) -- "Goodbye, my love. A thousand times goodbye" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrxIR2uja8w

Quantum of Solace (2008) -- Bond in Vesper's boyfriend's apartment. Not an expected choice maybe, but it makes me emotional. You can see Bond's rage and grief coming through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDsomYdPvTA

Life is Beautiful (1997) -- The final play of the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-13ScnosXAk

Cast Away (2000) -- "I always knew you were alive...." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTYRnHQjuUA

The King's Speech (2010) -- The big speech. This scene never fails to reduce me to sobs. It is one of the most intense cinematically-induced emotional storms I've ever witnessed. It rivals any action movie for that on-the-edge-of-your-seat quality. I saw it in the theater three times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPLIw64rLJc

I'll probably think of more, but this is my definitive list.

Rocky (1976) is a big one for me too. Especially the scene you have marked in round 14. Rocky gets decked scrambling to get up, music blaring, cut to Adrian, Micky telling him to stay down, and he gets up asking for more while Apollo shakes his head - extremely emotional and great scene.

reply

Well-said. For me, if that scene had any other music, it wouldn't be the same scene. The music opens the spigot on the waterworks of my eyes.

Also, the scene and its message/theme holds new personal significance for me as of about a week ago. I'm going to have to go the distance on a personal matter. Movies like Rocky are dress rehearsals for life.

Couldn't agree more. Good luck on your journey.
