First film of the year

What was the first film you watched in 2024? I watched Le Corbeau (1943) on blu ray. I liked the cinematography and the performances were fine, but I didn't find the story all that interesting. 6/10 would be my rating.

I'm rewatching The Batman for probably the fifth time.
It's got a really great cast and this Robert Pattinson is just terrific in everything he touches. I genuinely like his performances.
I don't care to guess how many time he and Leo Dicaprio squared off for leading roles but they are both top box office magic imo.

ETA: I did watch a true crime show early this morning, some psycho killed a family with a crossbow, a goddam CROSSBOW!
Do you know how much effort it takes to load a hunting bolt into a crossbow..?
It's not easy.
Well, at least they caught the creep.

I enjoyed The Batman, although I have only seen it once.

reply

Yeah, I love this movie, Pattinson is very good in a lot of other stuff too.
I don't feel like he's Leonardo level famous but the guy is really excellent in a bunch of pictures.

Also, I'm probably the last fool here that loves the super hero movies but to hell with it, bring on the capes baby!

I have enjoyed a lot of superhero films in the past, but I have grown tired of them. I would welcome a break from superhero films for a while.

reply

I get it, there has certainly been a flood of them over the last fifteen years, but I was a little kid comic book nerd a long time ago and I just love to see those stories onscreen.

Same with Star Wars, I just love that stuff.

reply

That's cool. I can understand that.

Turner Classic Movies had the original Godzilla (54) on this morning, I DVR'd it, I've never seen the original so I will probably watch it for my first film of 2024.

Kinda bad timing by TCM, considering Japan has a tsunami watch after the earthquake last night.

reply

I enjoyed the original Godzilla. Good movie.

Ant-Man 3.

Ugh, another Marvel chore of a movie to endure.

Paul Rudd saves it from being a complete snoozer.

I ENJOYED IT...I HAVE SEEN IT TWICE.
