Your thoughts on the movie "Silence of the Lambs"?

I'm watching it for the first time tomorrow. That Jodie Foster is hot!

Overrated. Okay movie but not deserving of the accolades it received.

reply

Maybe not by today's standards? But I can see it being a big deal for 1991.

Today’s standards are much lower. To earn an award in the 90’s - the best decade for cinema, and when you actually won for filmmaking merit and not meeting diversity quotas - really meant something.

Yes! I couldn't agree more.

Get the fuck out of here Gen Z with that nonsense, this movie was incredibly well done

reply

Gen Z? 😄 I’m 64.

How old are you?

reply

64. What difference does that make?

To say this movie is "overrated" is just quite ignorant.
You can say you still didn't like it for whatever reasons and that is fine, but if you call a movie that is this critically acclaimed "overrated" (a typical GenZ term as well for a substitute of actual arguments) the initial suspicion I have is "ah, a youngling who looked more at his phone than the movie...".

The thing is, the movie is OBJECTIVELY near perfect.
Casting, acting, shooting locations, setting, music, story/script, camera... it's all pretty much perfect. That's not an opinion, it's an objective analysis of pretty much anyone who understands film, the art behind it and also the craft behind it.

It's the equivalent of going into a really good restaurant and get served a perfect menu and still say "meh, overrated!". No, it isn't overrated - you just fail to grasp how good it is. If you do not like that particular dish, okay, but that doesn't make the dish overrated - it only shows you are unable to differentiate between "I don't like" and "generally overrated".

Seriously?? You've never seen this?? I thought everyone in America saw this when it came out in 1991??

reply

I was 3 years old in 1991. Also, I'm in Canada.

Wonderful movie.

I consider Se7en to be like a 'spiritual companion' to it.
