If not already, what will be your first XMas show watched this year?

None here yet, but I did start Funny Farm which could be sort of called a Christmas movie.

My first will probably be The Homecoming (the first Walton's movie).

I'll take A Charlie Brown Christmas, followed by It's a Wonderful Life, and White Christmas.

Gremlins

Love this movie!

My second-favorite Christmas entertainment was the episode of Married . . . With Children where they showed a Sky-diving Santa Clause falling past the Bundys’ living room window to his death, a bottle of booze in each of his hands.

Even though it gets shown constantly on Christmas day, A Christmas Story (1983) was on TBS (or maybe TNT) this past Sunday, and I found myself watching it.
Thus my first Christmas movie for 2023 has been seen before Thanksgiving.
Fortunately, I do not watch the Hallmark channel, or else I would've seen Christmas movies around the 4th of July. ;-)

reply

I have watched several Hallmark Christmas movies already.

I used to love the older Hallmark Hall of Fame specials, but those were from back in the late 60s and 70s.

Moi aussi

I'll wait until Black Friday, but I usually watch Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street, Is a Wonderful Life, Christmas Carrol, Charlie Brown and old TV series with Christmas episodes.

It's called the day after Thanksgiving. There is no such day as "Black Friday." This is industry jargon which originated with the giant American retailers because their After-Thanksgiving Sales (the proper term) were highly profitable, putting them "in the black."
The holiday season is not about greed, commercialism and materialism.

"The holiday season is not about greed, commercialism and materialism."

Sadly it is, especially in the U.S.. That's the reason Christmas Season starts the day after Halloween.

Other countries that don't have a Thanksgiving Day call it Black Friday because they copied our consumerism:

"In recent years, the adoption of Black Friday has become more and more prevalent globally. Currently, of the world’s 195 countries, an estimated 50-60% “celebrate” Black Friday in some form or another.

For example, in Europe, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany all started to adopt Black Friday within the last three to four years. Central and South American countries have also started promoting Black Friday. China and southeastern Asia participate in Black Friday, and almost half of Africa celebrates Black Friday in some way."

Sickening, isn't it?

reply

Yes it's sickening. These countries that do not have a Thanksgiving Day need to put a stop to this "Black Friday" rubbish. It's a cancer which needs to be stopped.

This is the holiday schedule for 2023:
If you live in the U.S.:
● November 23 is Thanksgiving Day, a holiday and not a day for stores to be open.
● November 24 is simply the day after Thanksgiving, not "Black Friday."

If you live outside of the U.S.:
● November 23 and 24 are just ordinary days in November.

Thank you for that link.

You're welcome.

Unfortunately, we're in the minority. Other Americans appeared to have succumbed to the commercialization. Bah, Humbug!

None. I don't watch any Christmas movies or specials before December 1. Neither do I listen to the music nor put up decorations before then.
Christmas is a special time of year. Don't trivialize and cheapen it with this oversaturation and hype that begins in October.

reply

I love Funny Farm! It's sort of an autumn movie too.

My first Xmas movie this year will probably be Metropolitan (1990).
