Who is the best actor right now?

With Daniel Day-Lewis retired, Pacino and Deniro past their best, who is todays best actor. I would say its between 3, Leonardio, Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix, i would say Leonardo Dicaprio is the best

Tom Hardy.

Despite him being a nightmare to work with, I think Edward Norton is a terrific actor.

A genius is rarely a nice person.

LaKeith Stanfield is a strong contender considering his variety of projects and performances.

Really like him & Daniel Kaluuya

reply

Kaluuya is really intriguing in his body of work, too. He can play vulnerable and intense with equal skill.

I'd add Sam Rockwell to the list. Fantastic actor.

Also, Cillian Murphy & Robert Downey Jr. Long time perfomers who gave amazing performances in Oppenheimer.

I think Phoenix is the king of the heap at the moment. Everybody wants to work with him and he can actually make an arthouse film that will clear a billion bux. Best of both worlds. Always puts forth a compelling performance no matter what he's doing. Can definitely open a film on his name alone. And he's appropriately strange and mysterious. You could pretty much hear anything about him and believe it.

reply

Elijah Wood is pretty good.

Signed, million man.

Why does advanced age put an actor beyond his best? I dispute that. It is reflexively ageist and thoughtless. Clint Eastwood once responded to a question about aging thus: “I love it. Now I can play roles I could not before.” He may not be a Shakespearean, but nobody knows more about being AND STAYING a Movie Star than he. Most know far less.

Nor is it time to put Anthony Hopkins out to pasture, nor Helen Mirren, God Love her, nor Judy Dench.
