not rated ?
too brutal ?

reply

I didn't think it was too brutal. It's pretty low budget, so I'm thinking that maybe they didn't want to have to spend money to change anything?

Summer Time Machine Blues (2005)

Have seen Primer at least three times, and still not sure I follow all the threads 100%. I just enjoy a sci-fi that takes time travel *really* seriously.

reply

I liked watching the movie even if I did not understand most of it. It was an exercise on my mind and its limits. Had to read the plot summary to understand the script.

reply

Heh was just about to mention the diagrams online that follow each timeline/character, but was beaten to it below…

reply

Theres some pretty complicated diagrams online explaining the ins and outs of Primer.

reply

I’ve seen them, and applaud both the filmmakers’ and diagram creators’ efforts. Right about the point that my brain begins to overheat, I realize that it is called science fiction for a reason and enjoy the film as “hard sci-fi” and leave it at that. I’m a pedantic nerd in many ways, but there are limits… :D

reply

Same for me!

Same here!

Not sure what qualifies for “not many people,” but since Orca has over 12K IMDb ratings, I’ll limit my pick to 5K to play it safe. Dunno about “best,” but a movie I love and have seen countless times that still cracks me up is:

The Wrong Guy (1997) - It really is a shame how underexposed this movie was in the U.S. The premise itself is funny enough, but Dave Foley and a fantastic ensemble cast really sell the hilarious script. So many quotable lines. Highly recommended.

And for a documentary, it has to be:

Alone in the Wilderness (2004) - It never fails to enthrall me and put me in a happy place.

reply

Both great picks. the wrong guy is on youtube. if you like kids-in-the-hall type drollery, you should check it out.

Alone in the wilderness shows what a frontiersman was capable of, the skill-set required to be one of those early settlers.

reply

Cheers! Of course re: the latter, you know there are three other docs featuring the legendary Dick Proenneke…?
