Sci-Fi: Why hasn't there been a good singularity movie yet...

Unless I have missed it, please let me know. Certainly there is plenty in the robot takeover/AI genre, but nothing purely about humans being completely displaced intellectually.

Considering how fast things are moving now, I would have expected a lot more - especially covering the initial, early stages. Imagine what it will be like leading up to the first update of Siri smarter than the average human.

There are some movies that touch on the subject of merging human consciousness and AI, like Her (2013) and 2014's Transcendence. There have also been numerous projects in development going back decades.

Overall, the idea of technological singularity has yet to be cracked in the way you describe. For me a more engaging approach would be something like the "Blobs!" story in the first issue of MAD (Tales Calculated to Drive You MAD #1), which is set in a futuristic world with humanity already coexisting with and heavily dependent on advanced technology to perform basic functions.

2001's A.I was pretty decent in my opinion, considering when it was released.

"The Creation of the Humanoids" is an excellent film on that topic. No explosions. More in the way of intellectual talking heads. But it's worth a see.

Also, these bloated comic super heroes have replaced real sci-fi now. I can't wait for the superhero genre to die and real sci-fi to return.

Check out

Colossus : The Forbidden Project (70)

or

Demon Seed (77)

Not great films, but both are better than average in my humble opinion, written for the Sci-Fi fan.

The best AI stories for me are from videogames. The first one that really scratched that itch was Detroit: Become Human. It's a little bit cheesy at times, but definitely sees AI surpassing us. Another is the Mass Effect trilogy. They have a lot of concepts not only about AI, but from the perspective of AI. There's a character called Legion, who is one of the platforms for a software-based race that developed higher intelligence by combining their "runtimes" into a single mind.
