Milius (2013) is a fine doc about a real Hollywood renegade. He wrote and directed some of my favorite movies and was allegedly a real wild man on set!
He’s older now and has suffered serious health issues so I’m not certain that he works anymore.

reply

I liked that

Cool👍
I’m not sure I agree with all of his politics and waving a gun around is an unforgivable business practice but Milius sure was a good writer and never a boring guy lol!

Some of the more interesting people are ones I disagree with.. I like "radicals" of any sorts. Just a second ago, I was listening to this guy, Bob Grant (right-winged two-way talk radio) and I'm not a right-winger - I guess I'm partly curious, but I also find it funny how hard he is on his guests. Joe Pyne was like this, etc.

Kubrick: A Life in Pictures (2001)

Great one... There's a lot that have been made in the last few years. I've seen them all. Maybe a dozen.

Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau (2014) - https://tubitv.com/movies/537473/lost-soul-the-doomed-journey-of-richard-stanley-s-island-of-dr-moreau

Burden of Dreams (1982) / My Best Fiend (1999)

Overnight (2003) - https://tubitv.com/movies/510561/overnight

Overnight should have a subheading: "The Story of an Asshole".

reply

For sure. It's pretty wild that Harvey Weinstein was involved in the whole enterprise and all the other stuff that was implied in that documentary. Goodness, gracious!

reply

I enjoyed the De Palma doc, he made some really great thrillers.

reply

Yeah, it's one of those rare straightforward documentaries where the director shares insight about his filmography, and it just so happens to be comprised of some all-time great flicks.

Donald Cammell: The Ultimate Performance (1998) -

About the late Donald Cammell, the director of the likes of "Wild Side" (1995), Performance (1970) (where the title partially of this documentary originated), "The Demon Seed" (1977), "White of the Eye" (1987) and a few others including some U2 music videos.
