shareIt was a typical class-action thing where the people get squat and the lawyers get rich. I probably got an e-mail stating the eligibility for submitting a claim. It's not something I actively went after, just to be clear.

shareConsider yourself lucky to get $8.73. Many class action cases pay off with a discount coupon to use with the offending corporation (after the lawyer-scums take 95% of the money.)
The person who files the case usually gets good money. The real reason to file is to punish the scum-bag company for their misdeed. It hopefully scares other companies off from doing similar stuff.
Ever seen any of those coffee cups lately, with the tops that McDonald's USED to use? No! Opening the tab had a high risk of spilling coffee, since it was not perforated. You had to tear part of the plastic off the top, sheer stupidity. They were begging for a class action lawsuit, and got one.
