Official Media Purchases Thread 📼 📀 💽
It looks like Kowalski had a good recent haul so here’s what I’ve got so far this year.
Has anyone else made any good physical media purchases?

Based Argento appreciator. 👍
Let me know what you think of The Stendhal Syndrome when you check it out (from memory I think it's one of Argento's that you haven't seen?). Good OST by Morricone in it. I think it's his best work post-Opera (1987).
Top 3 Argento post-Opera;
1. The Stendhal Syndrome
2. Trauma
3. Sleepless
You've even snagged an Argento flick I haven't seen, Phantom of the Opera.
I will definitely watch it first and report back. Looking at his filmography I see that there are several I haven’t seen that are very popular.
shareThe Stendhal Syndrome -
Man, this movie has such a strange feel that I could not help but like it. It’s weird, and the vibe is so different from earlier Argento films I have seen, and so damn cruel. I honestly wanted to turn away from one of the rape scenes. The early CGI was actually very fitting for the film and I really liked the pill swallow POV, not to mention the gruesome gunshot with the killer peering through the hole. The killer, I had never seen the actor before, made the movie and I thought Asia Argento was really good in the ending. Really great hard hitting story that really made me feel sorry for Anna with all she had been through. Oh, and I swear I feel like I have heard that excellent score before but there's probably no way it's possible. This is one of those good films that I've thought about a lot since I watched it last night.
Glad you liked it. I do think it's his best work post-prime (pretty much everyone thinks The Bird with the Crystal Plumage - Opera is his peak with him becoming very hit and miss after that, never reaching the heights he once did).
I like Asia as an actress. She was good in Stendhal and Trauma. Quite a few people find it sketchy that Dario films his daughter in topless/sex scenes. Many chalk it up to that liberal Italian attitude to nudity.
One of the scenes that always comes to mind when I think of The Stendhal Syndrome is the scene where Asia gets kissed by that fish in one of her hallucinations. Ha.
Yep, that fish scene was trippy and very well done. I need to fill in some of the holes I have left in Argento’s filmography. My main focus is Italian genre cinema, and somehow there are several of his main films I haven’t seen, even though they are so easily accessible.
I also was thinking “wtf” with Asia in those scenes. I would be interested in seeing an interview with Argento explaining his mindset on doing such a thing. It just doesn’t seem right to me.
OHHH...WE HAVE FOUND ANOTHER COMMON THREAD...I FELL FOR MISS ARGENTO AS A YOUNG TEEN...I HAVE SEEN MANY OF HER FILMS...INCLUDING THE WEIRD ASS ONES THAT YOU PROBABLY LOVE...YAY FOR COMMON INTERESTS...SHE IS AT LEAST PARTIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MY HABIT OF FINDING UNCLE JONATHON REJECTS SUPER HOT.
shareThat’s right! I didn’t think about that, but Uncle Jonathan certainly would not approve.
shareI don't think Dario has ever commented on the matter.
Asia, in an interview in 2004 for her upcoming movie Last Days (2005).
She went on to make several films with her father. These were invariably violent, embroiled tales about broken families. In Trauma (1993), for instance, she played an anorexic in search of her parents' killers. The film featured nudity. Appearing naked in front of her father was, she acknowledges, deeply disturbing: "Very weird, very painful. Something that I carried with me, but didn't really have the courage to have a conversation with him about... Definitely it hurt me and manipulated my personality."
Ok posting pictures looks like fun.
Let me try it:

I see you bought Placebo Never let me go so that makes you super duper cool. Did you listen to it?
Do you keep them all in their cases or put them in a Cd book?
Yes, the Placebo album was very good (I have all their albums).
Up in the King Cave I had my chippy build made to measure shelving for a lot of my Record/CD/Comic collection - I also managed to acquire some A-Z dividers from a record shop that was closing down, so it looks like a cross between a record store and a comic shop.
That’s awesome! When the video club closed they were selling their shelves and I really wanted them but they were super heavy and Big and didn’t have anything to carry them. One of my future project is to have a king cave to myself with some sort of office device to store all my DVDs, that you just press a button and it opens and then you can scroll through the DVDs alphabetically.
shareDefinitely complete the project. Don’t put it off or it’ll never get done.
shareAs for never let me go I’ve listen to it a few dozens of times and really love it. Are you able to tell me your five favourite songs on the album?
Mine:
Sad white reggae
The prodigal
Surrounded by spies
Try better next time
Went missing
I shall dig it out my library, give it another listen and let you know 👍
