How long do you think it will take before we kill ourselves off as a SPECIES???

And how do you think we'll do it???

And If you don't think that will happen, then why not?

What do you think we'll do to find a way stay alive??

reply

I think so, hope so.

We do have a tendency to foul the nest, so that will be likely our first great challenge.

There are also potentially mass extinction possibilities out of our hands.

If we do survive long term (into the 100's of thousands of years timeframe), there will be
bottlenecks, climactic catastrophes natural & man-made, and consequent massive social evolution.

nationalism, in the longer term, is unsustainable.

we're living on borrowed energy, air & every other resource.

reply

Well put. I agree.

But I also don't think we have 100's of thousands of years left before we become EXTINCT.

Because that process will most likely begin before the end of this CENTURY (due to the way the last 5 YEARS have also been the HOTTEST ever recorded on the planet before).

reply

100,000 years is optimistic. if hominins do go extinct, assuming there are any primates left, it would probably take another 20-30 million years to cook up another sentient species.

reply

With the EARTH on its way to becoming a planet like VENUS ( with it's RUNAWAY GREENHOUSE GASES), it's HIGHLY UNLIKELY another SPECIES is going to be able to SURVIVE on a PLANET where the temperature is high enough (900 degrees FARENHEIT) to MELT LEAD.

reply

nah. we might bake off the megafauna & of course ourselves, but the earth has intrinsic atmospheric stability.

we're not venus nor will we ever be, as long as we have plate tectonics (to sequester carbon), and a magnetic core to shield the atmosphere from the cosmic wind.

once we're gone, the planet will almost immediately go about righting itself to the basic status quo ante. there's only so much permanent damage we can do.

reply

Yes there's there plates and the other MAGNETIC CORE (that also helps to create the PRETTY NORTHERN LIGHTS for us), BUT there's also still the FACT that the SUN is going to SWELL UP and GOBBLE us UP.

So the shifting plates and the MAGNETIC CORE also won't do anything to STOP that from happening.

Will Earth become like a present-day Venus in the future ...

https://www.quora.com/Will-Earth-become-like-a-present-day-Venus-in-the-future

As the size of sun keep on increaing it will collaspe the orbit of mercury, venus and earth. Dont worry, it will take billion years. So similar scenerio will take place on earth. [b]Sun’s increasing size will boil oceans. Water will be converted into steam. And due to this Earth will be Converted into Venus like planet.

reply

that's billions of years in the future :)

reply

As you can see below it's not BILLIONS of years but just ONE BILLION years before that happens. And other things could also happen to us at ANYTIME or even before that time:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_extinction

Extraterrestrial

A geological or cosmological disaster such as an impact event of a near-Earth object (NEOs),[59] which serve as an absolute threat to the survival of living species.[60]

A single extraterrestrial event (asteroid or comet impact)[61] can lead to widespread species extinctions. However, none of the large "dinosaur-killer" asteroids known to Spaceguard pose a near-term threat of collision with Earth.[62]

Supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, solar flares, and cosmic rays, if strong enough, could be lethal to humans on Earth.[63][64][65]

The Earth will naturally become uninhabitable due to the Sun's stellar evolution, within about a billion years.[66]

In around 1 billion years from now, the Sun's brightness may increase as a result of a shortage of hydrogen, and the heating of its outer layers may cause the Earth's oceans to evaporate, leaving only minor forms of life.[67]

Well before this time, the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will be too low to support plant life, destroying the foundation of the food chains.[68] See Future of the Earth.

And we'd also NEVER even see a GRB (GAMMA RAY BURST) coming in time enough to do anything about it before it VAPORIZED us.

💥

reply

ok, you are reemphasizing points i've already made as if they haven't already been made.

we're vulnerable.

you can have the last word if you like.

reply

Well the TOPIC here is "HOW LONG" do you think we've got before "we KILL OURSELVES off as a SPECIES."

And you also said that it will take BILLIONS of years before that happens to us, but you also mentioned but didn't discuss in detail something that involves us doing something that leads to our OWN DEMISE.

Right???

reply

of course i have no idea how long we last. anyone who does is fooling themselves. i've only outlined some of the challenges & hazards. .

reply

And your wonderful input has also been much appreciated very much.

It's just the issue of us having ONE BILLION instead of BILLIONS of years left that one wanted to point out and call attention to.

So is there anything else that you'd like to ADD ON "in more DEPTH and DETAIL" to the other things that you've previously mentioned:

YOU again:

We do have a tendency to foul the nest, so that will be likely our first great challenge.

There are also potentially mass extinction possibilities out of our hands.

If we do survive long term (into the 100's of thousands of years timeframe), there will be
bottlenecks, climactic catastrophes natural & man-made, and consequent massive social evolution.

nationalism, in the longer term, is unsustainable.

we're living on borrowed energy, air & every other resource.

YELLOWSTONE, for example, (which tends to EXPLODE every 500,000 YEARS or so), is also OVERDUE for another EXPLOSION.

And that would mean the ASH would also CLOG up every single COMBUSTION ENGINE, thus also leaving us here in the US with no way to DISTRIBUTE GROCERIES to GROCERY STORES anymore.

reply

only that i now see that you are a rather strange fellow, who seems to have some sort of control issue. enjoy your thread !

reply

How does the attempt to get you to EXPAND upon the previous issues that you mentioned (which were WONDERFUL) EQUATE to having a CONTROL ISSUE???

You said that:

There are also potentially mass extinction possibilities out of our hands.

So one simply MENTIONED YELLOWSTONE (and the possibility that this could also be one of those POTENTIALLY MASS EXTINCTION POSSIBILITIES) in hopes that you'd be interested in a more IN DEPTH discussion about it.

But IF you don't want to DISCUSS the matter that's fine, because one can also still talk about it without you or discuss it with someone else.

So thanks again for your INPUT and for bringing up the matter in the first place.

For anyone else who is interested here's some additional info about YELLOWSTONE:

What If Yellowstone's Supervolcano Erupted ...

https://www.realclearscience.com/blog/2019/10/10/...

Oct 10, 2019 · The Yellowstone supervolcano has unleashed three cataclysmic eruptions in the past 2.1 million years; all well before humans populated North America. The most recent was 640,000 years ago, which formed Yellowstone as we know it and spewed 240 cubic miles of ash, rock and pyroclastic materials over roughly half of what is now the United States.

Roughly 5 billion years from now, the Sun will exhaust the hydrogen fuel in its core and start burning helium, forcing its transition into a red giant star. During this shift, its atmosphere will expand out to somewhere around 1 astronomical unit — the current average Earth-Sun distance. This means the Sun will gradually engulf Mercury, Venus, and likely Earth. Any surviving earthlings will have long since fled the brightening Sun — or, as some scientists recently suggested, moved the planet itself to a more sanguine orbit.

Thanks for the link.

Is this where you think the SURVIVING EARTHLINGS might have FLED to:

The inner realm’s doomsday will bring a brief new dawn to the outer solar system. Saturn’s moon Titan, the only known satellite with a significant atmosphere, should keep its dense shroud. It could enjoy several hundred million years of potentially habitable conditions with liquid oceans of water-ammonia, simulations show. The environment may even resemble early Earth. Eventually, Pluto and its cousins in the Kuiper Belt — plus Neptune’s moon Triton — could be the most valuable real estate in the solar system. When the Sun turns into a red giant, the temperatures there will be equivalent to those in tropical locales on Earth today, such as Miami Beach, according to Southwest Research Institute astronomer S. Alan Stern.

Moving EARTH to a more SANGUINE ORBIT also sounds interesting, but we'd also need to MOVE our MOON as well (due to the way we need it to keep us located in a STABLE AXIS --where we wouldn't WOBBLE around all over the place -- which would also produce DIRE CONSEQUENCES for us being able to SURVIVE that way).

Also FOUND THIS:

https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/nasa-might-send-a-mission-to-neptunes-moon-triton#:~:text=Triton%20might%20be%20habitable%20if%20that%20liquid%20is,right%20here%20on%20Earth%20that%20defy%20those%20standards.

NASA will select up to two missions to move forward with by next summer. If Trident is one of them, it would have to launch in October 2025 to take advantage of Jupiter aligning with Earth in such a way that the gas giant’s immensely powerful gravity would slingshot it to the far reaches of the solar system. That opportunity only comes around once every 13 years. Trident also better arrive at Triton before 2040 if it is going to find out what is behind the icy plumes, or else the sun will move too far north for the next hundred years. Most of us will be dust by then unless there is some unreal breakthrough in cryogenics.

reply

humans are very adaptable.

reply

I'd like to see how we're able to ADAPT to TEMPERATURES that are high enough to MELT LEAD.

reply

we survived the ice age

reply

We've survived more than just ONE of them.

But we've probably also NEVER SURVIVED the SNOWBALL EARTH SITUATION before where NEARLY the ENTIRE GLOBE was covered in ICE.

Only a very small area by the EQUATOR was still left uncovered by ICE.

reply

Well if there actually was a god, he would have killed us off about 10 years ago. The horrible things that humans do, its amazing that anyone actually believes in a god these days.

reply

PLATO claims that we're all FALLEN ANGELS who have been put here as a way to try and WIN back our WINGS again.

In other words, this place is like a prison for us where we've been given a chance to rehabilitate ourselves.

reply

hmm, I like the thought but no.

reply

The idea might also help to explain the reason why we're located so far away from other CIVILIZATIONS (or from other inhabitable planets were they might be located) that we can't reach them (at least not yet due to our lack of having technology that could get us there before we died).

Because if we're that bad as a SPECIES, setting us off in a place where others didn't have to deal with us would also MAKE SENSE.

Right???

In the other CREATION story GOD's MOTHER (SOPHIA) also creates him without the assistance of her husband, and since he's a DEFECTIVE GOD or only a DEMIURGE, she also SETS HIM OFF in a place all by himself where he also incorrectly assumes that he's the ONLY GOD.

Then that DEMIURGE also proceeds to CREATE other creatures in HIS OWN IMAGE (us humans), but since he's only a HALF GOD his MOTHER SOPHIE is also the one who BREATHS the SPARK of LIFE into us for him.

Sophia (Greek: Σοφία, lit. 'wisdom'), the Demiurge's mother and partial aspect of the divine Pleroma or "Fullness," desired to create something apart from the divine totality, without the receipt of divine assent. In this act of separate creation, she gave birth to the monstrous Demiurge and, being ashamed of her deed, wrapped him in a cloud and created a throne for him within it.

Demiurge - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demiurge

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophia_(Gnosticism)

The Demiurge proceeds to create the physical world in which we live, ignorant of Sophia, who nevertheless manages to infuse some spiritual spark or pneuma into his creation.

The Sophia is therefore the highest ruler over the visible universe,
She is "the mother" or "the mother of the living." (Epiph. Haer. 26, 10). As coming from above, she is herself of pneumatic essence, the mētēr phōteinē (Epiph. 40, 2) or the anō dynamis (Epiph. 39, 2) from which all pneumatic souls draw their origin.

The fate of the "mother" was regarded as the prototype of what is repeated in the history of all individual souls, which, being of a heavenly pneumatic origin, have fallen from the upper world of light their home, and come under the sway of evil powers, from whom they must endure a long series of sufferings until a return into the upper world be once more vouchsafed them.

So from that perspective it would also MAKE SENSE that we humans who were created by a DEFECTIVE CREATOR also got SET OFF in an area by ourselves as well.

reply

When did the Heaven'sGate cult say it would be? I’ll go with their answer.

reply

This ANCIENT GREEK STUFF has NOTHING to do with SPACE SHIPS hiding behind a COMET (which is what the HEAVEN'S GATE CULT believed).

But here's what's suppose to take place:

Nag Hammadi texts

In On the Origin of the World, Sophia is depicted as the ultimate destroyer of this material universe, Yaldabaoth and all his Heavens:

She [Sophia] will cast them down into the abyss. They [the Archons] will be obliterated because of their wickedness. For they will come to be like volcanoes and consume one another until they perish at the hand of the prime parent. When he has destroyed them, he will turn against himself and destroy himself until he ceases to exist. And their heavens will fall one upon the next and their forces will be consumed by fire. Their eternal realms, too, will be overturned. And his heaven will fall and break in two. His [...] will fall down upon the [...] support them; they will fall into the abyss, and the abyss will be overturned. The light will [...] the darkness and obliterate it: it will be like something that never was.

Another PHYSICIST (Max Tegmark) also has a theory where the UNIVERSE (which has been COOLING DOWN since it's CREATION) is going to COOL DOWN again (at which time EVERYTHING in it (ALL the GALAXIES, SOLAR SYSTEMS, PLANETS, etc. etc. will instantly FREEZE UP and turn to DUST like particles -- sort of like a GIGANTIC BLOB creeping up on EVERYTHING to DESTORY it).

reply

You don’t mess with the Prime Parent.

reply

Well the idea is THIS MATERIAL WORLD is a BIG MISTAKE -- due to the way SOPHIE creates it by ACCIDENT without the ASSISTANCE of her HUSBAND (the same way as the DEMIURGE creates US without the assistance of HIS WIFE).

So the goal is to return us back to the STATE again where we belong (in a SPIRITUAL STATE instead of in a MATERIAL STATE).

Can't find a video yet of his other theory where he demonstrates in the "WHAT IS NOTHING"" episode of "THROUGH the WORMHOLE" what will happen to us, but here's another different VIDEO with MAX where he's discussing the subject of NOTHINGNESS vs SOMETHINGNESS:

His section of it is also only about 10 MIN in length

In other words, just like WATER can change from a LIQUID STATE into STEAM or into ICE, the SUBSTANCE of our UNIVERSE (DARK MATTER/ENERGY) may also do the same thing (change into another completely different state when if it COOLS DOWN again like it did after the BIG BANG).

Without SUPERSYMETRY this could also happen in about another BILLION years.
