1980's

Let's not talk about bombs and the brain impulses of severed limbs
You will always subtract your arms from my arms
Someone always interrupts us when we talk
So I'm gonna draw this evening's line
Before my wash hangs on it for everyone to see

It's very bad luck to draw the line
On the night before the world ends

1980s

It's not like I've been mean to you
It's not like I got somethin' better to do
The life I live you'll never understand
If you fly with me we'd never have to land

1960s

But looking at them just gives me the blues
'Cause how you gonna make some time
When all you got is one thin dime
And one thin dime won't even shine your shoes

Great song..."On Broadway" by The Drifters. Little bit of trivia...do you know who played the guitar solo on this recording?

reply

I didn't until I had looked up the lyrics, and songfacts popped up in my search. So I didn't know it was Phil Spector until today, but I do now.

reply

Yes, excellent! It's a shame he had such a sad ending to his life...he was such a gifted producer (and a really good musician also). RIP. 😢

PS: Speaking of great guitarists, I always liked George Benson's version of this song. However, there's just something about The Drifters' version that just can't be beat...that lead vocal is just so great!

reply

I really like George Benson's version as well. I really love it at the beginning to All That Jazz.

reply

Awesome! I've never seen "All That Jazz," but I remember when that movie came out. It seems like that was one of the first movies that appeared on HBO, if I remember correctly. I always liked Roy Schneider as an actor...RIP.

reply

I really like that movie. I just rewatched it a couple of weeks ago and I still really enjoyed it.

reply

Great! I should try to watch it one of these days!

I say this every time I see his name or hear one of his songs: "I sure do miss Tom Petty."

This one is from "Into The Great Wide Open," one of his many great songs.
