Canadians: Your thoughts on Don Cherry getting fired?

I think it's silly and it's reflective of our PC "outrage" culture these days. By that same logic, then PM Trudeau should've been removed from office after the Blackface scandal erupted. Also, seems like a douche move to fire him on Remembrance's Day. Your thoughts?

reply

I don't think he should have been fired for what he said.

reply

It's sad how our society has gone.

reply

Yeah, I think it has gone too far.

reply

Here's what he said. It's tough to get young people to wear poppies. He shouldn't have singled out immigrants.

reply

Absolutely ludicrous. We've become so soft.

reply

How about older immigrants?

If he's factually wrong, then tell him. It's certainly not bad enough to fire him over.

reply

This guy has been playing with fire for years. I didn't even get a poppy this year.

reply

People should be able to be a little controversial once in a while, otherwise nothing ever changes.

Why didn't you go get one???

reply

They weren't in the stores where I was last week, at least I didn't see them. It happens.

reply

Not Canadian but it seems like a joke to be fired for that. That said there were veterans selling poppies etc the other day and I saw lots of white Anglo Aussie's walk past them without a care too. So it isn't just new immigrants who don't relate to the act.

reply

I agree. Not just immigrants.

reply

I actually despise Don Cherry and I think that he has said some pretty horrible things over the years. I do disagree with his being fired over this though. Calling out immigrants was wrong, and I think he should have apologised and that should have been that.

reply

I hate Don Cherry and while his comments were stupid, firing him is going way too far.

reply

I'm not Canadian so I'm not familiar with his history. I think his mistake was blaming immigrants. I suspect there are plenty of other native-born Canadians who pay no heed to Remembrance Day and wearing poppies.

I don't think he deserved to be fired over this, though. Everyone wants their 15 minutes of outrage these days. It's crazy that every mistake, no matter how big or small, is grounds for immediate firing. It's ridiculous.
