Who do you think should be the next James Bond?

James Norton.

reply

I am not familiar with Norton but know he has done work for Doctor Who, so he has to be in very good acting company to achieve the swagger for Bond.

Idris Elba would be an interesting choice. He knows how to handle strongman dramatic roles though his name is already connected to other franchises such as The Avengers and Fast and Furious spin-off "Hobbs and Shaw."

I like Elba a great deal but at 48 he might be too old, he'd be in his sixties by his third or fourth installment

A lady could be a good switch!
Bond, Jane Bond...I'm feeling it!

Have you ever played any of the Time Crisis videogames, Time Crisis 3 in particular? There's this character named Alicia Winston and she is ba-ba-bad to the bone.

In the main story, she appears nothing more as a side character, but after completing the main game, unlocking her "Rescue Mission" perspective, it shows just how indispensable she is to saving the day.

The game plays like an 80s action movie, with all the common tropes of awesomeness. You can find the whole shebang on YouTube; haven't looked to see if it's on Twitch though.

No, I never played video games...Seems I missed out

reply

Nah, videogames' stories are so cheesy you didn't miss much. Except maybe The Witcher. But that's based on a novel.

reply

Which is why the underrated ones are so appreciated. Take "Gladius" from 2003, for instance. While not having much of a story, the game resolves around turn-based arena combat.

Fragments of the story are revealed in pieces. It's very rewarding since the player has to put in effort without hurting their mind. What I mean to say is that strategy games are the exception, and open-world games like Red Dead Redemption a lot of times too.

A lot of Scottish nobles are actually mixed descendants of Normans, native Scots (who originated from northern parts of Ireland) and Picts (who were always there, before the other two). The Normans are nothing alike most ethnic peoples of the British Isles, arriving from the European continent by way of Normandy, France. Do you really think all the actors who have portrayed Bond have Norman heritage, a sea-faring Nordic Viking people who traveled the whole world and back quite literally?

Are we going to begin requiring DNA blood test screenings for all potential acting candidates in an attempt to ensure that the genetic markers line up and are consistent with the role they're vying to play? Don't you realize how utterly preposterous this sounds?

I tell you DNA samples are only as accurate as the results want them to be, provided people's ancestors have not intermingled with others and stayed in one place for a historic amount of time, which isn't the case for most people, and certainly not the inhabitants of the British Isles.

I was mostly looking at actors in their 30's.

Alfred Enoch. Can be very charming.

Ed Westwick has a slick look but he might be a little short.

Aiden Turner might be okay as well.

I wouldn't say no to Tom Hiddleston or Idris Elba either, although Elba is almost is almost 50 he could be pretty awesome.

reply

I think an actor in his early 30s would be ideal...he could do 4 or 5 films very believably

I don't know the Enoch guy so I can't honestly comment
Westwick could be a winner, he's a suave looking guy, seems like a tough dude
Turner certainly has the jawline!
Hiddleston looks too wimpy, I think Bond should appear very dangerous
Hate to say it but Elba is too old

I love these casting threads, I go on like I know what I'm talking about😆

reply

I wouldn't say that Hiddleston is too wimpy. Sean Connery wasn't exactly Mr. Muscles. I think that Hiddleston could do the charming aspect of Bond. But he isn't my first choice.

reply

Connery was a big fit guy during his Bond era, he was pretty muscled-up
Hiddleston, nothing against him, seems a prancing cute boy
More fit for Rom-Coms and silly roles...he's very good but I wouldn't buy him as a double O assassin

reply

I also really like Raza Jaffery, but he's too old as well.

reply

He does have the look, I just haven't seen too many of his movies

I like the way you're thinking!
What do you think about a Lady Bond?
Could be a cool change

reply

I'm not opposed to a female Bond per se, but I think I would prefer to see an original female spy movie that wasn't related to Bond. It's somewhat like getting sloppy seconds for lack of a better term.

It's somewhat like Ocean's 8. I enjoyed it for what it was, a by the numbers heist movie, but it also irritated me that it had to have the "Ocean" name attached to it. Like no one would go see a female heist movie unless it was attached to a male franchise.

reply

I never saw Ocean's 8 but I get what your'e saying

My pet theory on the James Bond films (which another poster recently shot holes in!) is that 'James Bond' is an assigned identity for government assassins and the Double-0 rating is their license to kill...they can do whatever they need to carry out the hit
I'm all about Scarlett Johansson for Bond

I bet a Lady Bond would be a big winner, frankly this franchise needs an update

reply

If we are going to have a lady Bond I would at least like them to be British.

I am not so sure about it being a big winner though. There was a lot backlash over a female doctor.

reply

Kermit the Frog.

reply

Miss Piggy as Lady Bond
I'd watch it!

I've said in a previous thread that I think Henry Cavill would be the best candidate at the moment.

reply

Henry Cavill is the embodiment of Bond. Too bad he's already in the ill-fated The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

reply

Does anyone even remember that film?

reply

I do. It's mediocre.

reply

James Purefoy!
I think he would have been perfect 15 years ago and he is so handsome, suave and British.
