Who here remembers video rental stores?

In another post, I talked about VHS players. I've enjoyed discussing this old media nostalgia with others. So I'll expand into another topic, that being video rental stores:

Stores like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video...what do you remember about them? Do you miss them? Do you think they would serve any purpose in today's society?

And also, did anyone ever rent movies from a store called Westcoast Video? Or was that only a store in my area? Cause I can't seem to find any information about it.

But, mostly I remember how stupid I thought other renters were and how much I hated them. They would not rewind the movies, and when it switched to DVDs people would somehow scratch the hell out of them. How hard it is to put a DVD in and take a DVD out of a DVD player without ruining it?

Remember? They still exist.

Miss them greatly!

I remember when they were a new thing. You had to get memberships to rent movies at those places. It was amazing at the time though, being able to watch movies in your home any time you wanted!

Prior to that you had to see them in the theaters or hope for a showing on TV.

We never really had any specificed video rental stores in my country, you could hire movies at most gas stations though.

I remember the Sunday early evening ritual of walking down the video rental shop aisle going, “seen, seen, seen, seen, crap, seen, seen, seen, ooooh this one’ll do”.
