Gaspar Noe
Irreversible (09)

I don't suggest you watch it but I saw it once about 4 years ago and it still remains in my mind...It was really a rough movie, no lie, it was perfectly written and filmed but the sexual violence was maybe a bit too much for me...But I get it...the Director had to go there for his story

Excellent, professional and flawless film-making though
Not for everybody!!!

Very surprised by your choice. I reviewed it recently and don't forget you loved it so much.

It is in my personal top 30.

reply

It was expertly made and brutally effective, Noe is no slouch

I really like Louis Malle's documentaries, especially "Place de la Republique" but I need to see more of his feature films.

This is all unexplored territory on my end.

Any suggestions along with what people are posting here are welcome.

We're a fun bunch so stick around.

There is so much access to Japanese culture it's not even funny. I say that as an American. A great venture to jump into.

Francois Trauffaut would be considered French New Wave, I believe. Just going off memory, I think his most famous film is Jules and Jim (but I feel like I'm simply guessing right now). Btw, Trauffaut has a famous cameo in Close Encounters, again, off of memory.

I had a friend a long time ago and we viewed J&J together. He derided it as having no story, and he had a point. Sometimes I think I'm overly swayed by the reputation of a film versus my own estimation, but on the other hand, if significant people find something to be artful, there's a good chance they are on to something.

If it's been a long while since seeing a film, and are still remember some things about it, then it must be very good.

Unless it was really bad, haha! I. Plan on watching it either way. Thanks for helping me started, snepts.

I've always read how this was the debut of the French New Wave, and also his debut (1959). There's always debate over the first neo-realist or new wave movie, which I don't know, but would be nice for people to share what they think. I'm more interested in the quality of a movie, rather than the term, but the terms are necessary to find movie suggestions for example.
