Directors who should come back

I think Drew Barrymore should direct another movie, Whip It was pretty good.

Johnathan Mostow. Breakdown and U-571 were both really good, and though he had some duds after, he should return. He's not really gone, but I want him to get back to his roots.

Richard Kelly. I really hate Southland Tales, but no amount of bad could make me forget how much I love Donnie Darko. No movie since 09.

E. Elias Merhige. I really liked Shadow of the Vampire. No movie since 04.

reply

Oh and Steve Buscemi should direct some more movies too.

reply

Also, if Kubrick could just come back from the dead already, that would be great.

reply

I would also like to add Hitchcock. 👍

reply

Yes, why isn't that human life resurrection thing coming along faster? These should definitely be the first two people.

reply

My thoughts exactly.

reply

Kerry Conran. I'd love for him to make another retro-inspired spectacle.

reply

I had to look him up to jog my memory. I love Sky Captain. Apparently he's working on something and it may happen, but he's secretive, and his brother is in the art department at like dreamworks or something.

reply

David Fucking Lynch

reply

I saw him as an actor in something sort of recently. Might have been Louie, if fact I think it was. He was great. I do really want him to direct another film.

reply

He also recently acted in Lucky. https://moviechat.org/tt5859238/Lucky

reply

I'll check that out. I love Harry Dean Stanton.

reply

He did a new series of Twin Peaks earlier this year.

reply

It feels more recent than that, but it was actually summer 2017.

reply

Time flies. I didn't get around to finishing all the episodes until March. Movie projects take time to develop and produce, plus Lynch is currently pursuing his other artistic endeavors like painting in the meanwhile.

reply

Amen brother. How u been? Good to see you over here! Seems a tad vanilla in this dimension of moviechat😉

I’d also resurrect Jim Henson obviously.

reply

Been good, hi! Not much to talk about since Peaks ended... :/

reply

Norman Jewison

reply

Like many older directors such as John Carpenter and Zefferelli he seems to be enjoying his retirement from studio-financed films.

reply

He is 92 and lives in a beautiful mansion just north of Toronto. I drive by it all the time.

reply

Sounds like he lives fine on the money he has made.

reply

Mostows Terminator 3 is underrated... and even for those who don't care for it, they should agree it's very well directed.

reply

John Milius for Christ sake👍

reply

OMG yes!

reply

John Carpenter
John McTiernan

reply

Yes, definitely miss John Carpenter

reply

Totally agree with both of these. I am going to a re release of Halloween on the 18th followed immediately by the new movie double feature. I can't wait. I've never seen the original in cinemas and I have kept myself away from almost all information about the new film, so I'm incredibly excited.
