TV shows that were huge in their day but now have been all but forgetten about?

Family Ties. When I was a child this was the show to watch. The adults in my life couldn't stop yammering about it. Thirty years later and about the only thing people remember about Family Ties is that in one episode Tom Hanks played a drunk who tried to get a buzz by chugging down an entire bottle of vanilla extract.

On the other hand, how about a series that was a flop in it's day but now is considered a gem......Freaks and Geeks! Apatow/Feig and their fabulous cast, depending on your tastes, arguably are responsible for a treasure trove of fun films(with the occasional misstep).

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. It was overly popular among teens when it aired, much like The Walking Supernatual, I mean Dead, and Supernatural are today, and then . . . poof. Just like what will happen to The Walking Dead and Supernatural.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer MOVIE remains watchable to this very day. Two reasons: (1) MUCH better casting (Rutger Hauer, Donald Sutherland, PeeWee Herman and Kristy Swanson [who makes SMG look like a boy], and (2) a narrative that didn't even try to take itself seriously.

My So Called Life!
I kept trying to think of that show the other day. I couldn't even remember Claire Danes! I could picture her, but names just came up blank. I hate when that happens!
Now, why would I bring up this show if I have a hard time remembering the name?
The failed memory is on me. This show was critically acclaimed. Our son and I watched it each week. Unfortunately, it was short lived. I have read about one or two of the reasons. It may have had to do with Miss Danes being so young and not being able to handle the pressures of starring in and carrying the load of a tv series. She was in practically every scene.
Great show!
