TV shows you loved as a child, but couldn't stand when rewatching them as an adult.

I was at work the other day, and discussing with my co-worker what shows he liked from his childhood. Then I asked him if there were any shows that he loved as a kid, but cannot stand them now as an adult. He asked me the same question, and here was my answer.

There were 3 of them that I loved as a kid, but when I tried watching them years later as an adult. I couldn't stand them.

1. The Dukes of Hazard
2. The A-Team
3. Knight Rider

I'm curious what other peoples are?

reply

I would list the 3 you mentioned too, but going into later childhood, I would add Saved By The Bell.

Although I can't say I actually liked it that much even as a teenager.

reply

I haven't seen saved by the bell since I was was 13. I think I did like that one as a teen, but I don't know if I would now. The three I listed come up a lot in these types of conversations.

I found the writing was weak, and the shows were very formulaic. The Dukes of Hazard was the same thing almost every show. How many times can you see the stupid cop end up in the pond. From chasing the Duke boys through the county.

I also doubt I could watch The Incredible Hulk, or the original Batman series... I'll have to include G.I. Joe and Transformers as well.

Actually it would probably be easier to list shows from my childhood and teens that I would still be able to enjoy now... My long-time favorites Frasier and Simpsons both qualify, I appreciate them even more as an adult than I did back then.

I rewatched Sledge Hammer recently and loved it, but it wasn't "great." I can watch Looney Tunes any day.

So that's four. I was also a big fan of Northern Exposure back in the day, and I bet that has held up well too, but I haven't seen it since it was being broadcast.

reply

Yeah Northern Exposure was a good show. That is one I'd be curious to see now as well. Also the old Batman series is one I can't watch. I loved it when I was a small kid, but now I can't watch it at all.

The Incredible Hulk I still love. I find they are very well written, and Bill Bixby's acting makes up for the cheesy looking Hulk makeup.

Battlestar galactica...the old series

Ah yes, the old Battlestar Galactica was painful. I loved the new Battlestar Galactica.

Bewitched
I Dream of Jeanie

reply

I'd rewatch Bewitched these days solely because Elizabeth Montgomery was so gorgeous.

reply

I always thought she was beautiful too. Try her in The Legend of Lizzie Borden on YouTube.
Much better.

I still love them all!
