UPDATE: Archives, Pages, & more

I’m excited to announce MovieChat’s latest update which includes:

1. Virtually complete Movie and TV Show archives - thanks to the archive data that has been made public, our archives for movies and tv shows are now virtually complete. It was a complex task to integrate these archives with our existing posts here, and took longer than expected, but having the full archives alongside our existing content is well worth it. All existing MovieChat posts should have been preserved, but if you notice anything missing just let me know. (I backed up the entire site before the integration, so nothing is lost.)

2. No more endless scrolling - pagination has now been added!

3. Post Count - your post count now appears beside your username whenever you post

4. Easily identify the original poster (OP) in a thread - the OP’s username is now bolded

There are a few more minor changes that you’ll see as you’re browsing the site (kudos to whoever can first spot them). Apologies for the downtime today, but it was necessary to get the updates up and running. And as always, with major updates there is the chance that a few bugs slipped through. If you notice anything weird, just let me know. More updates on the way!

Great work again Jim! It seems though that old history of notifications is gone. Hope it works on new posts from now on at least, because it's a great feature. Also, as some others mentioned, it could be good with an alternative to nested threads. I have noticed that in a couple of threads with many replies to one post it ends up with just a few letters on each line all the way on the right side of the screen. I prefer nested replies like we have now, but in those threads it would have been nice to have the option to switch to flat as it is almost unreadable.

But overall VERY happy with the design and functionality of this site so far and pleased that it seems to be growing so well.

Great job Jim, awesome work! Thank you so much! 😄😄😄👍👍👍👍👍👍

I did, however, find one little problem that I noticed right off...all of my previous notifications were gone. I also had 16 notifications on my bell but, when I went to see them, nothing was there but 2 of them. Lots of other users had the same thing happen to them too. Do you have any idea what may have caused all of our notifications, prior to the update, to disappear after the update??

Oh and...please, please, please can we have a PM button so we can send private messages??? Thank you!! 😊😊😊

reply

PM button is becoming essential now that IMDB2 board is also losing members. We gotta have means to inform each other about trolls in order not to feed them.

reply

Absolutely Apis! We definitely don't wanna feed the bloody trolls! Maybe Jim is done with the hardest part of merging everything together and can start focusing on buttons and other things.

We need to batten down the hatches since IMBD2 is gone downhill, we may get a flood of trolls in here...and THAT'S scary! Hell...it's a freakin' nightmare! 😲

reply

I noticed a lot of new posters on Moviechat... I'm afraid that flood has already started. 😕

reply

I noticed that my old notifications were gone, too. Hopefully I didn't miss anything, but I was online a few minutes before the site went down, so I should be fine.

Also agree that PMs would be very nice.

Loving the pages and archives! Keep up the good work, Jim!

reply

Leia, I had 16 notifications on my bell so I had to use my profile page to find out where I posted so as to be able to reply to them.

reply

Alright. I'll check again just to make sure; thanks for the warning.

reply

You're welcome Leia. 😊

reply

Thanks sooooo much again Jim...for everything!!!

I DO have a favour to ask of you. Do you know if you have the old threads and posts for Joe Pantoliano's board? He made posts on his board and it would be a shame to lose that, as many actors do not post on their boards. Please, if you run across them, can you add them...pleeeeaaaase?? Thank you! 😊😊😊

@jim

can you add a 'quote' feature for the boards?

reply

Thank you jim for this wonderful site.

reply

Looking good. Thanks for the effort.

reply

Jim, please, make an ignore/block feature. That is the one thing that can take this site from good to near perfection!!!! Please oh merciful one, I beg of thee... 🙇🙇🙇🙇
