UPDATE: Notifications v1.0

Good news guys!

Basic email notifications have been added. If you're an existing user, to enable email notifications, go to your profile (by clicking your username in the navigation bar above) and click on "add email". New users will now be required to sign up with email and notifications will be enabled by default. There is also an option to opt out of email notifications, should you wish to do so.

You'll receive an email notification anytime someone replies directly to a post or reply you made.

I'm also working on adding notifications to the website as well (similar to what you would see on Facebook when someone comments/likes a post). As always, let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

reply

Thanks, Jim. Great job.

@ jim

can you add a 'Quote' feature to the boards?

reply

It's so old school right now. I just learned how to make a link. By quote, you mean link right?

reply

I'm guessing he means an own "quote"-box beside the reply where the quote (what one wants to answer) will appear in the reply instantly and show up maybe in an own box within the reply, with the nick of the original poster beside, when posted. Typically one can edit the text thats quoted also (to select a specific sentence for example).

Would love to see that too btw.

reply

I don't want an email, I want something on the site that informs me I've been replied to or quoted.

reply

But then it is like facebook or stack exchange. This site was suppose to be modeled after IMDb. That is what sets it apart as a movie/tv show website from a facebook or stack exchange.

reply

We've got Lansbury, folks!

Ah, there's a bit of a translation problem since they can come up looking different on different computers and all.

A question: If I sign up with one email and want to change it to another email account later, will I be able to do it?

reply

I don't know. That sounds like a Jim question.

reply

True. Jim seriously needs to add an "Ask Jim" thread in here.

Thanks for the suggestion. I forgot about this means of communication 👍

There is also an Things That Need To Be Added thread. Not sure if Jim looks at it though.

reply

No. Then again, if he made the option for us to turn notifications on or off on email, I am sure it would not be too hard to have an "edit" under the email address portion to do what you suggested.

reply

Okay. I'll have to toss a coin then and select one of my email accounts. 😛

reply

I would just keep it. If you have gmail, either put these messages in another tab or mark them as unimportant. This way, even if they do get annoying, you know your important emails from these casual ones. I love being a consolidator of sorts and for me, I need to have everything in one place. Too many emails are just ugh...

reply

Yes, you can change your email as many times as you want.

Just note that the new email would apply only to posts/replies made AFTER you changed the email. (Any notifications for posts/replies that were made before changing your email will still go to your old email.)

EDIT: now changing your email will also apply to old posts as well (so notifications for replies to posts made before you changed your email will now go to your new email)

reply

Okay jim, thanks for the info!

reply

I'm assuming you are the Neo of this board or someone with some stroke. Anyway, I hope this board populates. Seems to be the cleanest, easiest to navigate that I've seen out there.

Good luck.

THANK YOU SO MUCH JIM!

I was just about to suggest this to you but I'm glad that you beat me to it!

reply

Thanks so much, Jim! We can really rock it now!

EDIT: Would someone shoot me a reply so I can test this out? Like wheelin176 above, I also sent myself a reply, but haven't received the notification yet. Thanks!
