Lawrence of Arabia: One of the best cinematic achievements of all time.

I remember seeing the restored version in 1989 - on the big screen in 70mm. Properly epic.

And the good news is the old IMDB threads for this movie were saved:

Welcome aboard, Maria! We're all glad you're here.

LOA is one of the greatest films of all time. I'd put it in the top 10. As Lawrence would say, "Nothing is written."

Lawrence of Arabia is a brilliant film. Welcome to the board! :)

She hasn't been here in a year.

Beautifully filmed and acted. And scored even better. But I must admit, I don't care to watch it much. I chalked the reason up to there being no love interest. Unless you include the love of power. Also, I HATE the dessert, always have. I'm a mountain and forest man. I guess thats why my pick of best Lean film is Dr. Zhivago. (With Great Expectations or Bridge On The River Kwai running a close second.)

reply

Well, there's no heterosexual love interest.

I love this movie, I love Peter O'Toole, and BTW has anyone else read Lawrence's autobiography "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom"? Fascinating book, and the film sticks pretty close to it, by the standards of the era.

The trick is not minding that it hurts.

I'm not exactly wild about the desert either, although I love nature in general.

I too am a mountain/stream/creek/forest type of person. While I can appreciate on some level the austere beauty of the desert, all in all, it leaves me cold. (Or, rather, too warm. Except at night, when it gets overly cold.)

Welcome, and AQABA! (A year ago.)

While it's extremely doubtful you'll ever see this post, welcome all the same.
