Does Anyone Here Actually Go to Movie Theaters Anymore?

I'm a self-proclaimed movie snob and aficionado, but I honestly can't even remember the last time I went to a movie theater.

I consume all my movies now either on VOD (via my Fios box), Netflix, or some other method of streaming. It's crazy that going to a movie has actually become more expensive over the years, while at the same time the number of alternatives has increased. Why would I pay $20 for a ticket + $20 for snacks when I could just watch in the comfort of my own home?

I go about once a year. I saw Rogue One earlier this year, and The Force Awakens before that. Price isn't a huge issue since I live in a small town with reasonable prices. I have no interest in super hero movies, which have dominated the big screen for some time now. Star Wars is the one franchise I will very likely watch in theaters though.

Yes, two or three times a month. I love going to a movie theater and seeing a movie with an audience.

I go quite often. There is nothing like the theatre for seeing films. It is the way they are meant to be seen, in the dark, with an audience and popcorn!

reply

Absolutely, yes. I don't get to nearly as often as I'd like, but I do go, and prefer to see many movies in the theater. I almost never pay high prices for it though. I watch out for free preview screenings, take advantage of whatever deals are to be had (early in the day screenings, buying multi-tickets, student nights, etc.). BUT, at times I go more often to see other special events in cinema (opera, dance, theater on screen) than I do to see actual movies.

Since I'm broke, I only now and then actually buy refreshments/snacks from cinemas, so I don't even worry about the prices of them. Even with digital, there's nothing like seeing a movie on a big screen, as it was intended, and with an audience of others around me.

I used to go a couple times a week at least up until a year ago. I even subscribed to Movie Pass which worked out real well. 30 bucks a month and I could see a movie every 24 hours. There just aren't enough decent movies coming out to use the service more than 2-3 times a week.

Now with my 80 inch TV, Netflix, Firestick, and a couple of very good streaming sites I only go once in awhile and I cancelled my Movie Pass subscription.

Still nice to see a movie on the big screen once in awhile. If I was married or had a steady gf I might go more just to have something to do.

Only if it's a free preview or I get to take my kids, and even with the latter it's always a matinee.

I still go to watch James Bond movies, it's been a tradition for me since I was a kid, I also go to see a Disney movies now and then.

Pretty much agree with some of the other posters here. The prices are absurd and I'm only willing to partake occasionally if I'm extremely interested in seeing the movie in question.
