US President Joe Biden's administration is to build a section of border wall in southern Texas in an effort to stop rising levels of immigration.

Around 20 miles (32km) will be built in Starr County along its border with Mexico, where officials report high numbers of crossings.

Building a border wall was a signature policy of Donald Trump as president and fiercely opposed by Democrats.

In 2020, Mr Biden promised he would not build another foot of wall if elected.

What are the real problems and what the democrats doing to solve them? Your president wasted another $9 billion last week. No big deal as always.

Today’s announcement brings the total approved debt cancellation by the Biden-Harris Administration to $127 billion.

That $127 billion could have went to other resources. But as always no big deal, its just money.

Remember when Trump wanted $5 billion for border security and dems said it was too much money?

Biden didn't want to build the wall, but the money was already appropriated by congress back in 2019.

The wall panels are already bought and sitting in an area to be put up. All is needed is rehire the workers to keep putting them up.More than 20 miles of wall can be put up from what is in storage.

Is this wall still to keep others out of the USA?
Or to keep the US-Americans inside?
Increased numbers of US-immigrants were reported, particularly in Mexico City.

Might cut down on the flow of migrants through that county. It won't have an effect on overall immigration to the US, other than forcing some migrants to walk a little further possibly.

I must admit, I'm disappointed in our President. It looks like a political move, but one meant to appeal to voters who are anti immigration. They also tend to be racist and right wing. Not only is trying to appeal to them distasteful, but it also seems futile. They certainly aren't going to switch their loyalties because of an empty gesture like building twenty miles of wall along the border. It doesn't even make sense if you believe the ends justifies the means when it comes to winning in '24.

Is it only about the election next year?
Serious question, I don't know.

Apparently an immigration problem exists, as it exists in Europe.
What would be the best solution for that problem?
Neither Trump nor Biden are my idols, though not my enemies either.
And need to admit that I get goosebumps reading the word "wall".
Certainly because of our past.
So, what is the better solution?
