How Do You All Feel About the Electoral College System?

Is this concept fair or no...?

reply

I think the unfair thing in our democracy is every state getting 2 senators. Should a state like Wyoming, with a population of 600,000, have the same number of Senators as California, a state with a population of 38,000,000?

That's a travesty.

reply

California has more in the House of Representatives though.

You have to be careful about giving too much power to states with large populations over smaller states.

UNITED STATES is just that...united. Giving too much power to large states, small states would become increasingly resentful...and less united.

reply

So California has representation in the House equal to its population but gets short-changed in the Senate.

I do get your point, though.

It was the f---ing Electoral College that gave us t-Rump. Hillary won the popular vote by 3 million!

reply

IT SUCKS...BUT THE ALTERNATIVE SUCKS MORE.

reply

It does not fit what is needed today to give representation to all citizens.
I saw an idea on some website about splitting some states up that have
a lot of citizens into 2 states, which would help the blue states get the
representation they are lacking today. Still, I think President should be a
federal officer and should be voted on equally by all citizens, not proportional.
This was a remnant of slavery - it needs to go on that account anyway.

In theory just about everyone hates the Electoral College system. If people knew nothing about politics and someone explained the difference between popular vote and Electoral College just about everyone would prefer the popular vote method.

In today's political climate Republicans like to defend the Electoral College because it got W Bush and Trump elected. Conversely, if Gore and Hillary lost the popular vote but got elected by the Electoral College then Republicans would hate it and Democrats would be defending it.
