They weren’t covered when they put them in the ambulance. Does that mean they’re still alive?

Dead doesn't ride in a ambulance.

What do they do with deceased individual’s bodies? I don’t think they were alive. I saw them.

And neither ambulance was in any hurry, nor were the paramedics who loaded them in.

If they were dead, they will bring them to the hospital where they will “ officially” pronounce them dead and contact their next of kin.

I found out that they survived. One was in critical condition and the other was stable.

They can still ride with a medic doing cpr. But a medic can also call it or if the person has a dnr then they stay on scene and the medical examinator people come get them with the body bags.

What is a medical examinator?

They come out in a van a pickup the body and put in a body bag. Then go to the morgue and do a autopsie.
