Despite the fact they saw a giant UFO in the ground... Pink Floyd - have a cigar 10/10 overplayed to death I think a lot of the public thought Johnny was some kooky fortune teller, and slander against Stillson would probably just add fuel to his campaign. Who would honestly believe Stillson would start a nuclear Holocaust just became some crazy guy claimed so? Would that stop Hitler? No, his only real chance was to kill him. Brad Pitt always looked way younger than his actual age. And of course TLJ made a career out of playing curmudgeonly old fogies... probably not too far from his real personality, lol Tommy Lee Jones is only 3 years older than Jeff Bridges It goes back to the old saying “practice what you preach.” If you’re going to be political then you should back up what you’re saying with actions. Otherwise you just look like a sanctimonious twat i.e. Bono
I think this explanation is canon for the movie, as the single cell infection theory would render the plot pointless - all the thing should do is to spread some thing-juice into the eyes of the humans, prick them with one pointy tentacle, or some other bull$h!t like that. Not fun, and unworkable from a story perspective.
Not to mention none of the humans would be able to fight back against it. Merely being in the same room or breathing the same air would be enough to infect you. Also it would be pretty noticeable if your insides were being slowly digested/replicated. It appears the Thing can produce copies in a couple different ways. Either it absorbs the victim and then adds them to its original mass to become a larger Thing, or it assimilates them and produces a separate copy so there are now two Things. I do like that theory. Almost like a bio-weapon gone wrong.
The MUCH BIGGER threat is it getting into the ocean. Once it does that, it's a wrap. One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish, goodbye planet.
I’m not sure about that. If it fell into the Antarctic Ocean it would probably just sink to the bottom or freeze. Doubt the Thing had the ability to swim. They were lucky the Thing crashed in the middle of a desert, because there were no other animals to imitate and escape from the area. If it managed to absorb a bird then the Earth would be completely screwed. Windows appeared to be covered in some kind of slime after the Palmer-Thing ejected him from its mouth. It seemed he was being assimilated. Same with the juice the dog thing was spraying. Just launching more of itself at its victims in order to digest them. Your fourth sentence in was a pile of bullshit Yep
