Born in France? Ah, I thought I'd have time to host the next round, but it seems I won't be able to at the moment. So the next round is up for grabs. Nostradamus? Died in France? Born 1600-1649? Born 1650-1699? Voltaire? Born after 1800? Born 1900-1909? Died before 1990? Died before 2000? Some of the best movies ever are three hours long or even more. Seven Samurai is three and a half hours long and you don't even notice. An excellent portrayal. He was my favorite character in that movie. Tommy Lee Jones did a great job. The movie did somewhat exaggerate Stevens' personal role, by sort of fusing him with other radical leaders like Charles Sumner for the sake of brevity and not cluttering the movie with too many major characters, but Stevens was still an important leader in the time period. Correct!!! Oops! Sorry hownos. Sorry everybody, I was having internet connectivity problems. Hopefully that's over now. Sorry, my internet connection crapped out for a few minutes. My compliments nonetheless! I've known a bit about the period for a long time but my knowledge has mainly been only cursory, but I've been learning about it a little more in depth recently as I've been on one of my history-enthusiast kicks lately. Learning about Khalid ibn al-Walid, I was pretty amazed at his accomplishments and I kept wondering why this guy's name isn't up there with the likes of Caesar and Alexander as one of the great military commanders of the ancient world. Well, early medieval world by that point, but yeah. I suppose in the Middle East itself he's pretty well-known, but outside the Middle East one rarely hears of him except among scholars who are experts about the early days of Islam. Ok, I'll go ahead and do another one.
