Muslims are just fine with joking about religious fundamentalists and the like. Here's Nasser and some of his supporters cracking jokes about them in 1958: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZIqdrFeFBk It's all about context. The problem with most Western "jokes" about Islam is that they tend to be racist, ignorant, and derogatory about the whole billion and a half Muslim people, and they come from a context of Western imperialism against the Muslim world, giving them a "punching-down" quality. It's salt in the wound. The West bombs them, invades them, overthrows their governments, while rhetorically shitting on their religion and culture and lumping all of them in with al-Qaeda and ISIS types (when in fact Muslims are the ones doing most of the fighting against al-Qaeda and ISIS). People in a Western, Christian-majority country making jokes about and within their own culture and religion doesn't have such a quality. I don't know, why don't you ask the people who made them instead of us? Damn, I was looking in the wrong century, at people who did their exploring in the 1700s and then maybe died of age in the 1800s. George Dixon? Died after 1800? Scottish? Died in the Western hemisphere? Born before 1700? Born in Britain? Natural death? Explorer? Died in Europe? Inventor? Born after 1600? Born after 1800? Born after 1900? Born in Europe? Yep. They make for interesting people. And first woman in space is a big historical milestone. Correct! She was born in Ottoman Albania, and she died in the 1990s. My mystery person was born in the Soviet Union and is still alive.
