What happened to the action & fights?

The action for the finale was mostly meh. The action peaked in the opening scene of the series in my opinion. That first helicopter chase in the desert was just amazing. It wasn't sh*t after that but it never reached those heights again imo.

The finale's fights were so bland & uninteresting. The way they were choreographed & shot made it seem so mediocre.

Or was that just me?

Absolutely agree. The first half of the season was promising enough. The second half was just...weird. Maybe we can put it down to the pandemic or something? ugh...anyway, I'll just move on and forget about this. Loki looks like it will be cool and about fantasy and not real world boring politics. Ms Marvel...who knows.

reply

Yeah, the second half, especially the bits in Latvia seemed to take place in a "few blocks radius". Guessing that's cause of the pandemic as well.

Not just that but The choreography & action shots honestly seemed off in the second half of the season

Also, Loki, along with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is honestly my most anticipated Marvel project. Time & Universe hopping adventures & shenanigans, count me in. You're absolutely right, it does look & sound completely different.

No you are correct the action sequence was bad. It was filmed too tight/up close, the editing was awful with hacky hypercuts and I couldn’t tell what was going on most of the time. One of the worst action sequences Marvel has ever done.

reply

Yap. Especially when Bucky was fighting the flag smashers in the finale. You'd think Super soldiers going at it would be fantastic but it was just poorly choreographed, shot & edited

reply

Right. The fight scenes at the end looked like something out of "Smallville" 20 years ago.

reply

Seriously, I was watching it & thinking to myself, this is supposed to be "Prestige tv" with their enormous budget & star power but I've seen better fights on the CW shows.

reply

director is most likely not up to scratch/experienced in action stuff

reply

That actually makes sense. I remember my girlfriend watched the recent Charlie's Angels reboot and she said, it was basically made by someone who's never done or has no experience in directing action scenes/fights.

reply

well i guess most or all these actions films/series etc have an action/stunt director come in and do the stunt heavy scenes for them.. but the director will obviously still be in charge and will make or break the action scenes

reply

That's what I keep thinking. The MCU has some pretty decent choreography. Especially in the Captain America trilogy. Cap has the best fights in the MCU in my opinion

But the fights in this were so forgettable & so uninspired. I kept wondering where their choreographers were for their first action heavy MCU series.

Hopefully, Black Widow & Hawkeye have better action
