Lambada!

1989: lambada becomes the biggest summer hit worldwide. the music video has a prepubescent boy and girl performing a partner dance, rubbing their genitalia at each other. nobody cares.
2020: an arthouse film shows a group of prepubescent girls perfom a provocative solo dance. massive outrage.

hipocrisy exposed once and for all. case closed. :)

and before people start making accusations again: no i've never been a fan of lambada (believe it or not, even i found it a bit weird to see children dance like that), but i'm even less a fan of your fake outrage.

reply

That's a generation removed from today. I doubt that the people who are outraged by this Netflix film even know what the Lambada was. But since you have given them that Youtube link, they will now be able to express their outrage about that as well.

reply

Biggest summer hit worldwide? Do you have any proof of that? I never heard of that movie, and doubt that name people did. There was no internet then, so nobody would know about some obscure little movie.

reply

That song was everywhere. I think I have it on a couple of different Summer hits cds. I know there was a little bit of a scandal about the dirty dancing and the song was not allowed at school dances.

reply

So full of shit. It was inescapable. The radio played the song nonstop.

reply

OP IS RIGHT.

As someone that actually enjoys latino dances i fail to see the hyper-sexualization in lambada ...

Plus: they are just 2 kids that enjoy dancing, there's no one cheering for them, putting then on a scene performing sexy acts, making money of them, etc.

I know, for a lot of people latin dances look sexual. Well, they are not always.

reply

The song was everywhere, but who even saw it? Cant be many.

reply

you're not very old, are you? the hype about the video was what made the song successful in the first place.
even the youtube upload from 6 years ago has already more than 175 million views.
