Wow. Best. Euphoria. Yet. This could have been a disaster. An original high school musical written by a student? I’ll stipulate that the production values of the play in this ep are as far from plausible reality as we are from the Crab Nebula. I’m more than okay with that. The intercuts between Lexi’s show and real life could have been a disaster. They SIZZLED. The most powerful shot in all film and video is The Reaction Shot, where a focus on a character’s face triggers the emotion the director wants us to feel. Lexi/Cassie’s mom (who I would mount in half a heartbeat) was amazing in this pastiche, showing her pride in her younger daughter (MUCH deserved), her own libido (yum, yum) and her grasp of the humor re the Home Team’s homoeroticism. (Note: I’ve lived in gyms all my adult life. I’ve seen many guys jabbing juice needles into each other’s ass and then snarling at everyone else in the locker room, “You fags stay away from us.”)

The balancing between the fictional Cassie, Nate et al. and the real people could have been a disaster. It was anything but. Bravo; and bravo for the “stage” casting.

You and I also know the fallout from this will Take No Prisoners.

It’s time that Lexi came into her own. She has been an underutilized resource to Euphoria and she has exploded BIGTIME.

My heart goes out to Nate. Btw, I like
the actor very much. The “I Need A Hero”number—amazing as it was (the choreography! the music! Fuck! This was no high school musical!)—took him right back into his conflict with his gay dad and his own identity. That’s brutal. Out on a limb time: I double-dog guarantee that Nate is straight. He’s also smart enough to question who and what he is. I’m rooting for him.

Of course, we all worry about what happened to Fezco. And maybe to Ashtray.

Not for nothing, but Cassie and Lexi’s mom and Maddie’s mom are MILFs. The apple does not fall far from the tree. Yum.

Maddie's mom never made it into this season. You must be talking about Rue's Mom, in which case I corroborate.

Thank you for the correction. I meant Maddy. The most recent ep contained a flashback to when Maddy’s mom gave her that great, figure-hugging blue sequined gown that showed off her full hotness, and the mom was hot as well. When I go into Male Excitement mode, my brain may not be at its best.

That's not her mother. It's the mother of the kid she babysits. It's the dress she tried on while the parents weren't home.

I'm mad that most of Fezco's problems have been caused by Rue and she just gets away with it

I loved this episode too. The "I Need a Hero" segment was gold. So over the top I was hosing myself laughing. Nate's allegation - "I can't believe they were laughing! That was homophobic!" - didn't make sense to me though because that scene was so outlandish that even with straight characters it would still be a laugh riot.

PS, I still think that S02E05 was the real jewel of this season. Watching Rue on the run, leaving a trail of devastation in her wake, was riveting. Best episode of the entire show, and likely the episode that will get Zendaya another Emmy nomination at the very least.

Because? SPOILER Was it the outcome for Fezco and Ashtray that put you off? If so, it did the same for me; but the play brought me right back up, and my jaw right back down.
