1917 (2020) vs Dunkirk (2017)

which is better?

Neither. Both are mediocre and highly overrated. But if I really really had to choose, then maybe 1917.

Dunkirk

Neither worked for me but possibly Dunkirk is the better film. With hindsight I remember 1917 as a long gimmick with an out of place interlude.

1917 was an excellent well crafted film with beautiful cinematography and outstanding set pieces. It had that true gritty battlefield feel to it, where you felt like you were in the trenches with them. There were a lot of emotional and suspenseful scenes that kept it going all the way to the end. Gave it a 8/10.

Dunkirk was a weak war movie in my opinion. It didn't capture the threat of an approaching enemy like it should have. The Germans were barely shown which took away any suspense or feeling of a threatening army closing in on you. It had some good cinematography as well but the whole non-linear timeline was just distracting and counterproductive for this type of movie. Gave it a 5/10

Tbh I find 1917 a little boring.

1917 is an intense ride.
Dunkirk is a slow burn.

I enjoy them both.
