Also why did they make this when we have another version coming out next year with much bigger names?

They didn't know.
They did know, and they wanted to beat it so theirs would have exposure before the "bigger" one stole all the attention.
They felt their movie had a different tone and approach to the story.
They realize there is an audience that doesn't rate films using a scale of "bigger names".
