An entertaining but overrated and inferior sequel (spoilers)

It’s weird to read people hailing ‘A Quiet Place Part 2’ as a superior sequel or some kind of five-star banger. “A Quiet Place 2 is a classic horror film,” William Friedkin wrote on Twitter. “Cinema is back.” To me, it was less like watching a richly textured post-apocalyptic world open up and more like a YouTube compilation of every chase / child-in-peril scene from Spielberg’s ‘Jurassic Park’ (and ‘War of the Worlds’).

Secondly, Scoot McNairy’s ‘The Hills Have Eyes’-style tribe of mutants living at the marina... what the hell? Why, after just one year without toilet paper and moisturiser, did they all look like Old Greg from ‘The Mighty Boosh’? What was the deal with the cliche creepy little girl? Could these mermen not smell the freshly-cooked BBQ meat coming from the utopian island cookout being held ten minutes away off the coastline?

Well the triple editing at the end was nice (arbor, Emily blunt, son with baby)

I have a feeling that was probably what Krasinsky had in mind when writing the story, and everything else was filled in between XD

For as well received as this has been, I was surprised by how little it built or expanded on the first, it was mostly a retread.

It felt very simplistic in terms of world-building, almost as if they were afraid to define things too clearly for further sequels. The action sequence, as mentioned, just reminded me of the best bits of various Spielberg movies.

It felt like a very contained story.
