Did Boba chicken out?

He would have known that Din was ultimately seeking a Jedi to hand Grogu over to.

It was rather convenient that Fett was somewhere else, nobody explained where or why, the whole time Luke was there (not to mention when the dark troopers were reboarding the cruiser).

Maybe he's traumatised by first seeing a Jedi cut off his dad's head and then being humiliated by Luke at the pit of Carkoon.

IIRC Boba left way long before Luke arriving.

He had a mission, he fulfilled his mission and moved away, maybe didn't want to take on more Tie fifgters.

reply

He didn’t know a Jedi was coming.

Boba pretended to attack their shuttle with the Slave 1 so that they would have an excuse to land on Gideons Cruiser. Once they landed, Boba jumped away again, to avoid getting shot down by the Cruiser.

It would've been interesting to have Luke and Boba Fett come face to face again. Talk about an awkward moment. Hey, you got out of that pit, good for you! Hey, you're still wearing the same clothes, might want to do some laundry! 🤪

I thought that was the plan. I mean, it was obviously part of the plan for him to help get them into the cruiser, and he did that and buggered off, as was the plan. We don't know his role in the next part of the plan was, because the assault on the cruiser was a win-or-die scenario and he didn't have an agenda that included the "die" part (but come to think of it, neither did Cara or Fennec).

So as far as we know, the plan was for him to wave goodbye and say he'll see them all tomorrow if they're still alive and have their own giant cruiser, and then maybe he'll take Cara and Fennec to their next stop if they don't want to stay and re-conquer Mandalore.

He clearly came back for Fennec though. So he didn't just drop them off and that was him finished. He pledged to help recover Grogu. Not just give them a lift.

It looked like the entire light cruiser assault occurred in very-near real time, so Boba wouldn't have time to return

More likely he was nearby, waiting for a signal from the boarding party that it was safe to return

And if he didn't get a signal within a short enough time, it's back to the light cruiser, seismic charges ready to drop

I wouldn't have minded seeing his reaction though, when they described the Jedi who came for Grogu: "You gave the kid to THAT asshole? You know what he and his buddies did to me?"

reply

....huh? How would he have known a Jedi was going to show up?
