Anti-Christian?...(spoilers)

Does anybody else feel that this is squarely aimed shot fired at Christianity?

Ignoring the fact that the whole mastrubating-while-praying thing is pretty disrespectful to people of faith, the whole show seems to be based on the premise knowledge being withheld from the people in a way that seems very reminiscent of the Garden of Eden story.

In this case, the children are left the apple (the box) from the tree of knowledge (books)... and even though forbidden to learn from it by their mother, they go against her wishes. And then they lose their 'Eden' (innocence... daughter kills a man, son helps father kill a man by warning him), and I assume they'll lose their village again after a battle that will happen in ep4.

There's nothing likeable about the queen. I get that she's the main villain so far, but she's such a cartoon villain that there's nothing for the audience to hold on to. How does she have ANY followers? How has she managed to stay alive for 17+ years acting like a tyrant (or just having that mini-mullet)? Hoeks weird speech inflections are so distractingly annoying that she could be a saint and still frustrating to sit through. But really, there's not much likeable about ANY of the characters. I'm curious about the shadow girl, and Aniwa, but only because we've gotten minor bits of Shadow and Aniwa has just grown into her own in ep3 so we're still getting to know who she has grown into. (To that end, I'm really thankful for the time-jump because a whole season of an army hunting toddlers on behalf of an unwatchable queen would be even worse television.)

Apple has truly missed the mark here. Hollywood lives in an echo-chamber of anti-religion, meanwhile, much of the rest of the world still comes from, and holds dear, those religious roots. And the see no need to give those up no matter how much Hollywood trashes them or their beliefs.

There is quality in the show in the production design, cinematography/scenery (amazing locations, though I feel like the grading hasn't done many favours for the cine), sound/sound design, the insights into living blind in a wild environment, etc... sadly, none of that quality found its way into the written story or the dialogue. At least, not by the end of ep3 anyway.

So far, this is a 3/10. I'm floored that they've greenlit a second season already. I understand the last half of season one got serious rewrites... I'm hoping the show gets better because of it, but I'm not holding my breath.

"How does she have ANY followers?"

I think this has something to do with "the blind leading the blind", but I consider it from the reverse perspective as "the blind following the blind".

Haven't seen it so I have no opinion on whether it is anti-Christian or not BUT if it is anti-Christian, Christians won't get together and speak out against it. Hell, they won't do anything. They are being wiped off the planet and they worry about being called names. Oh well........... The future isn't bright.

Most religions are built from the remnants of ones that died out before them. Christianity is no different, as most of its stories and characters pre-existed the time of Jesus. So it's not hard to imagine a new generation having brought some aspects from Christianity going forward.

This is one show that really demands a lack of critical thought. It's rather far fetched that blind people can navigate in much of the way they do, not to mention many of the thoughts noted in a different post. You just have to try and enjoy the actual story, and immerse yourself in this different future.
