15 minutes in and it's one bad cliche after another

None of the human encounters are a reflection of real life, and if they are, they are extremely rare. And the sassy, swearing daughter that tells her to punch here lights out would not be the product of the "perfect mom" that they are trying to convey. I'm done eating my lunch, not sure I'll be coming back to this. Does it improve?

I enjoyed it. It's not an especially realistic film, no, but that's part and parcel of the action genre. Suspension of disbelief is necessary.

It's basically a female-fronted Death Wish clone. If that sounds interesting to you, you should enjoy it. If it doesn't, you probably won't.

VERY WELL SAID...THAT JUST ABOUT SUMS THE FLICK UP.

It's amazing how many movies have copied the Death Wish formula. I watched a random John Travolta movie maybe a year ago called I Am Wrath and it was the same thing.

THATS FUNNY..I JUST PICKED I AM WRATH UP AT A PAWN SHOP FOR A BUCK...HAVENT WATCHED IT YET.

It's the very same shit, just shot on a lower budget and with less style. To be fair though, I thought it was fairly good for a direct-to-video action film. It's probably even above average for that specific category.

It's directed by the same guy who made The Scorpion King and Eraser, so there is some actual experience behind the camera.

Unlike Death Wish though, this woman goes from being Jill Average to expert assassin. I think they took the concept too far and it may have been more interesting if her revenge was a little less expert. I thought it was an ok film but I have no desire to watch it again.

You're right that her abilities really strain credulity. It's not a perfect film by any means, but I appreciated how refreshingly retro it felt. It very much felt like a film out of the 80s or 90s rather than today's era of ultra political correctness. That alone earned it a lot of kudos from me.

It did okay at the box office but not great, so I doubt there will ever be a sequel. But if they made one I'd watch it.

It was very retro and I like that she didn't have any stress about killing. I did like the retro feel to it. If you haven't already check out Shooter another really good revenge film with a retro feel.

Oh, I fucking LOVE Shooter. That's a great movie, and yes, it also feels a lot like a film from another era. For whatever reason it took me several years to finally get around to watching it, but when I did, I loved it. It's well-made, has an interesting and original story, and it's a good role for Mark Wahlberg. Good call there.

Another one that comes to mind is Gerard Butler's "Fallen" series. Angel Has Fallen was a little disappointing, but Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen are a lot of fun. And those are definitely films that thumb their nose at the PC Brigade.

Shooter is fucking great.

It did touch on the fact that she trained and became who she was over a five year period which would have been more than sufficient for someone suitably committed, which she was.

reply

Not really. I think they took the whole thing a little too far.
