Two episodes in, hooked

So far the documentary is extremely interesting after just two episodes. Admittedly, I haven't done any independent reading yet about the murder case because I didn't want to risk spoiling anything, so I'll want to do that as soon as we finish.

Looking at the larger issue of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church through the lens of a specific murder case is really interesting and helpful for me, not having been raised Catholic or having any familiarity with the culture.

I just finished watching it.

I really hope that the victims eventually get justice and that someone, somewhere gets to the bottom of what is clearly a very well-organised conspiracy to cover up (or just flat out lie about) what went on. How can so much of the investigation's information just 'disappear'? How can the Church be allowed to get away with lying about Maskell's (known) history of abuse?

It just feels so sad that all this could have been stopped from the very beginning, but decades later, child abuse on that scale is still being covered up, wrecking people's lives while protecting the guilty.

A very good docuseries. I just finished watching it the other day.
I was never abused, but was raised a Catholic and went to a Catholic grade school in the 60's. All these years later, a lapsed Catholic, I am not surprised by the lies and covering things up. I am amazed and shocked at the lengths that were taken.
Over the years I have read and heard stories of the sexual abuse within the church, but as you say, looking at it through the lens of a specific murder case is really interesting and to me, quite sad.
My heart goes out to all who were abused and to all of the family of Sister Kathy and those who knew and loved her.

Did they ever explain why the journalist thought it was Gerry Koob more than the church? Seems like they left that subject open... but it seemed like a very fair documentary, attempting to show the story with as much objectivity as possible.

The motive for Maskell(Do not call him father) or "the church" was just not there. It makes for a great emotional story but it is not.

She was not teaching there any longer and had become as lay person. She was never an eye witness to any of the abuse. There is no reason to think she was about to go to the authorities about the abuse. If she had she had no proof of anything.

In the meantime Maskell was totally insulated with friends in the church and the police force.

Maskell did not murder her because he had no motive to murder her. He had just as much motive to murder any other teacher at that school.
