My most miserable & cynical self would argue that Floor, Teefs and Lylla getting murdered was probably the best thing that could have happened to them given how stupid and useless they were; pure island of misfit toy garbage beings. But...

I recall after seeing Vol 1 nearly 10 yrs ago, surprisingly, that it made me want to be a better person. Although Vol 3 is no Vol 1, I once again felt drawn to positivity and hope watching this flick. The message about the value of friends and sticking by them no matter how smart or dumb resonated with me.
The dumb friend may be just what the situation needed. This makes Floor, Teefs and, (to a lesser extent) Lylla's deaths all the more tragic. You see Nath Fillion's character shitting on the "dumb" guy in his crew and look where that got him.

I had tears in my eyes. And I never had a tear during Marvel movies. I rarely get touched by something in movie to have actual tears.

But that storyline of his poor friends and their friendship was so well done with music, pace and editing. Like we knew there is zero chances they will get out alive and only Rocket will escape. And still it was so sad when they died. When they all were poor naive prisoners who were tortured, suffered and just dreamed of seeing sky and have new life. They were truly naive babies. And then were killed. And poor Rocket had to watch it.

They did very well with the CGI. They felt like a real characters.

I don't think I want to see it again knowing what happens. I actually think it'd be harder a second time.

Ditto. I couldn't handle it again.

I admit, I work in animal rescue, and this stuff hits really, really close to home for me. Everyone's mileage may vary, and I'm not saying it wasn't a well made film or didn't take the subject seriously, but the amount of time and detail given to the fear, pain, and anguish of Rocket & Friends was too much for me.

Weirdly, I found myself disappointed that Rocket survived. I mean, when he nearly died and met Lylla again, I thought, "Go! Go with them! Dude, don't go back! Your regular life sucks compared to this!" And I know that's not the reaction I was supposed to have.

I didn't want him to die there, because from a story-telling standpoint everything would have been pointless. Had he died fighting the High Evolutionary, perhaps willingly in order to insure H.E.'s defeat, or to save some other victims, that would have been powerful. Still, based on how the story played out I have no problem with the narrative ending the way it did. He came to terms with his past, and found some closure, and can devote the rest of his life to being a better raccoon.

He had to survive in order to save all the other animals. He was the only one that saw that room.

That's something that would need to have been addressed or altered were they to go the "Rocket dies" route, but it would be easy enough to resolve. Perhaps he is accosted by the High Evolutionary after having free the animals. In any event, the way the movie played out was great, and I have no qualms about his survival, nor do I think it is any sort of cop-out.

Yep, saddest scene in a Marvel movie imo. They were so friendly, innocent and helpless.
The panicked repeated yelling from Floor: "Rocket, Teefs, Floor go now" was really heartbreaking.
I would have been far less affected by for example the horde of nameless children from the ship being killed off, than by the scene with these three creatures

I was expecting their deaths because of Lyla already having been adapted in the Tell Tale Game of Guardians of the Galaxy. Also if you think his friends were too silly, don't read his original comics. I haven't read his first appearance as it is very pricey but his second appearance was in an Incredible Hulk comic. To be specific Incredible Hulk#271. I have the Incredible Hulk DVD ROM which contains every Incredible Hulk comic from the 60s to the early 2000s. Funnily enough just a bit of trivia for you non comic fans, the High Evolutionary appeared in a previous Hulk comic Incredible Hulk#266 where with the help of Hulk he commits suicide. His death would be undone later of course cause Marvel often doesn't allow characters to stay dead.
