Why the Welsh accent?

I just watched this with my 6 year old daughter and felt the film was a bit all over the place.

Setting is in England so maybe that's why? How would you rate it compared to Eddie Murphy's Dolittle? I feel like this one is slightly a step up in some areas while the others are not. Felt like I was watching Sherlock Holmes talking to animals. Even does the hat flip like Sherlock as well. Wish he did a sequel to that one instead of this. Didn't even see Tom Holland in this even though I saw it in the trailer.

Robert Downey Jr. based his character on Dr. William Price, an eccentric Welshman. Dr. Price is now a revered historical figure in Wales - there's even a statue of him in his hometown of Llantrisant.

I saw 15 minutes of this and it was… bizarre. RDJ’s Welsh accent was very ropey and all his dialogue sounded dubbed. Also, there were multiple occasions when he was speaking and the camera cut away to someone/something else.

Looks to me like there was a serious last minute attempt to deal with ‘the accent issue’ - just one of many things that cursed this production, it seems.
