Always the same bunch of X-men

They have such a huge pool of mutant characters to choose from but it's always the same underwhelming team - Beast, Cyclops, Storm, X, Magneto and Mystique. Not all of these are uninteresting, but we've seen them in so many movies now and know what they can / are going to do.

Quicksilver is a great character and steals the show, but didn't really have much of a role in this. Why not show some new mutants with some cool powers like they did with him in DoFP?

Apocalypse already did the phoenix thing at the end in a way, so maybe this movie was too soon to be successful at the BO. They could've made another 2-3 movies with new characters and villains like Sebastian Shaw, with only a few of the core team still present for familiarity's sake.

Some of the scenes were great, but Sophie Turner doesn't have the charisma or acting chops to carry a movie like this, esp. when it's poorly written to begin with. Both this and Apocalypse are the same for me - some cool scenes but overall, not an amazing experience like First Class and DoFP.

Can you elaborate on how it was poorly written, please?

Well who would you wanna see?

There's a huge pool of mutants in the X-men universe, so I'd like to see some new faces with different powers than the same old 5-6 characters that has been played out over 6+ movies. Not saying the core team shouldn't be there - but why not recruit some new talent and give them some screen time?

The X-men infighting (teaming up, falling out, teaming up again and falling out again ad nauseam), Magneto going from good guy to bad guy to good guy to bad guy..., the love triangles between the characters that never go anywhere or get resolved (Beast, Mystique and Magneto), the people / govt going from praising the X-men as heroes to condemning them as villains... all these themes have been repeated over the last 6 movies by the same bunch of actors (first trilogy and then the 2nd). So I'd like to see new faces with new powers taking over and fighting a new problem or villain.

If you want me to name specific characters, I can look them up and list them, but you get the idea.

The movies do show us other X-Men (Banshee, Colossus, Rogue, Havok, etc.) but the problem is, most X-Men aren't developed much. Halle Berry played Storm in four movies and we never really got a backstory from her. Hell, the filmmakers apparently couldn't even decide what country she was supposed to be from.

The X-Men moving to the MCU is good for the franchise since they have more of an opportunity to expand on the mutants.

Yep, which is why I'd like for future films to move away from the core team and showcase the less featured mutants more. You had some interesting characters in First Class and DotFP, but they were either killed off too quickly (Darwin, Blink etc) or just skimmed over.

Storm's a good character and they showed some of her story in the animated Wolverine and The X-men, which show also featured a ton of cool mutants we've never seen in the movies. And you're right, I'm hoping the MCU merger will bring in some new blood for a change.

The New Mutants was a step in the right direction and I liked ATJ in it, but didn't think much of the movie itself.

If you want something new, Age of Apocalypse has to happen.
