If they said that she wasn’t in the article (she still is handling Spidey), I’d actually be kinda terrified. That means Tom Rothman is in charge. Just to give a bit of context...

Tom Rothman was in charge of Fox during Bryan Singer’s original X-Men movies. When it came time to negotiate for him doing Last Stand, Rothman kicked the can in terms of the deal. Thus, Singer got fed up and left to do Superman Returns. As revenge, Rothman accelerated X-3 into production. Matthew Vaughn was originally attached to direct, but told Rothman he needed more time to make sure it was the product he wanted...he was almost immediately replaced by Brett Ratner. And if any actors had scheduling conflicts, like Anna Paquin or Rebecca Romijin, they were given smaller roles...or in the case of James Marsden, who had a role in Superman Returns, killed off.

Couple that with Avi Arad, who still harbors a bit of a grudge against Feige IIRC, that’s a pretty dangerous combination. If Pascal was leaving completely, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to pull Tom Holland out of the MCU to solely be in their Venomverse. Or worse, kill him off in the third movie, cut off all ties with Marvel, and recast for the third time in 20 years.

Sony had a long string of just bad decisions. Not all of them her direct fault, not really ever one person's fault or success, but she doesn't have anything close to a magic touch. She's been in leadership roles at Sony/Columbia since the 90s.

Sony has started a Spider-Man franchise five times in twenty years. Toby McGuire, Garfield, Holland, Spider-Verse, and Venom. It took Marvel to save that, although some liked Venom and it made money despite being a pretty stupid movie critically.

Spider-Verse was amazing.

She's been better as a producer than she has been as the studio head, with exceptions. Ghostbusters 2016 was a pretty bad decision, Girl in the Spider's Web was fucked from top to bottom, if you can even really credit her with those. She's not really a producer that has an overt touch, like Bruckheimer, Del Toro, or even Kathleen Kennedy do, so it's tricky to see her footprint on those movies, or even Molly's Game or The Post.

Most people associate her with just disastrous studio head decisions regarding Spider-Man mainly. Combine that with all the bad press after the leaks, how shitty she supposedly acts with people, and few have positive connotations with her name.

I hope they don't pull out the Marvel deal. Let's hope he has learned from past mistakes.

Good news for Sony.

Major.

As long as the Marvel deal stays intact and the two studios can maintain a good relationship (let’s hope), then all should be good. Maybe.
