Oz the Great and Powerful

I see similarities to Oz the Great and Powerful (2013). Both are prequels focused on the younger versions of the title characters from their respective classic fantasy movies (which are adapted from children’s novels) and try to present themselves as origin stories leading up to the original films even though there are canonical inconsistencies and both feature self-referential reimaginings of the singing “little people” characters from their respective movies.

The Oz movie was much better though with a more likeable cast.

Yeah, I like both but Oz has more famous actors in it compared to Wonka

When people say '2013 doesn't seem like a decade ago' I will use this forgotten movie as Exhibit A.

reply

Yeah, it is interesting to think how relatively recent Oz the Great and Powerful is even though it feels like forever ago

Oz the Great and Powerful" is a visually stunning fantasy film. Set in the magical land of Oz, it's a captivating prequel to the classic Wizard of Oz, exploring the origins of the iconic wizard. With impressive special effects and a charismatic performance by James Franco, the movie offers a delightful journey into the whimsical world of Oz.

I don't remember much about that movie except really disliking it. Wonka I liked.
