So Clearly she is a Master-manipulator

This show likes to sew all kinds of seeds of doubt. I'm starting to think she fabricated most of this stuff, even when she was, "Under". By that, I mean the settings may be real, but she is re-building the *actual* story to fit her narrative. The scene where she asks Bill about her wife - that was a big giveaway that she knows she's manipulating him. Not to mention she goes to the country club once and sees and remember nothing, but upon being threatened to return to prison she goes back and bee-lines to the exact stairwell? Something's not right here. I'm thinking she might be a Jeffery Dahmer-level sociopath.

I always thought from the get go she was manipulating the situation.

The show was great until the last few episodes.. Now all the pieces are magically revealing themselves? And the detective dosent even bother to show her the room with that wallpaper??
By the way, must I endure watching this weird man with his sexual issues every episode? He needs a good shower and shave if you ask me.

I don't mind kinky/sick sex shit if it serves a purpose. Mr. Mercedes has a lot of this stuff but it's there for a reason. Also - Bill Pullman...c'mon. He's America's sweetheart FFS. I applaud him taking a role like this, but he's like Judge Reinhold to me. If you're going to show a fractured man he needs to fit the part better. I think sexual-kinks are just an easy to way to show, "Depth" and, "Imperfections" of a character instead of stellar writing like True Detective S1.

So I never really followed Bill Pullman so I dont associate him with anything in the past... His fractured character is really interesting but it just feels so disconnected from the actual story in Sinner.
So where do I watch Mr. Mercedes? I like any film or shows that are off beat and dark. Thanks for the reply

You've never seen either Independence Day or While You Were Sleeping?

Donal Logue would be better for this character.

reply

Agree. Funny that you mention his name because he is who I pictured in Mr. Mercedes originally instead of Brendan Gleeson.

It could be this, or another possibility is someone gave her false memories. Either way, the relationship with JD and his ex doesn't add up, nor does the relationship with her parents, how she was able to get married, have a kid and stay somewhat in the same area without her husband being suspicious of her past.

I posted on another thread here and it exhausted me so I cannot repeat it,,But I have one question now,,, Why dont we ever find out why she stabbed the guy 7 times, to repeat the same 7 stab motion on the detective in episode 2? (she punched him in the same manner)
I just gave a full summary elsewhere and I need this answer cuz although I did like the series very much, it really pissed me off as well, LOL. I couldnt stand the detective. That awkward hug at the end? Puleese Felicia!

I am at the end of my rant, so everyone can feel a sigh of relief now. I know I do.

She punched him the same way when she realized her sister was dead, right after her ribs cracked. When the same song played in episode 1 and she saw him on the beach, she was reliving that moment, same as she did with the detective. For purposes of the story, it was the only way the detective knew for sure she suffered trauma, and he would have to dig deeper if he wanted to know the truth.

I had some problems with the ending, because none of that stuff would happen in real life- he would never be able to just take her out of jail to go riding around and wandering through peoples' houses. Especially while they were in there. Assuming she was allowed to walk through the doctor's house, they would not have him anywhere near her. And the case was already adjudicated, it would take years if they were ever to get a hearing for reduced sentence. They would also need the prosecutor to agree, and I doubt that would happen without at least charging the doctor.
